Job description

Job Summary

The Preschool cook is responsible for preparing nutritious and well-balanced meals and beverages for children and staff at the centre in accordance with Healthy Meals in Pre-Schools Programme (HMPP) and Health Promotion Board (HPB) guidelines. This role also involves maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen and supporting menu planning to meet the dietary needs of the children.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide support to the Cook in food preparation

  • Prepare three meals daily (breakfast, lunch and tea) for all children at the centre, ensuring they are healthy, age appropriate and meet dietary requirements under the HMPP and HPB guidelines.

  • Prepare simple beverages and occasional light snacks for staff as required.

  • Maintain a clean and organised kitchen, including washing dishes, sanitising equipment, and ensuring proper food storage.

  • Adhere to good hygiene practices, safe food-handling procedures, and workplace safety standards.

  • Monitor food supplies and assist in inventory management, including checking expiry dates and replenishing stock.

  • Suggest and develop new recipes and contribute to creating nutritious and appealing menu plans.

  • Work collaboratively with centre staff to ensure meals align with children's needs, including any allergies or dietary restrictions.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Prior cooking experience, preferably in a preschool or similar setting.

  • Valid Food Hygiene certificate.
