About the role

The Asia-Pacific Trading Desk consists of a multitude of different, mainly interlinked, trading desks including Power, Fuels, Steel and Petrochemical Complex teams in Singapore, as well as trading teams situated in China, Japan and Indonesia looking after domestic products in the respective countries.

The role will sit in the Power Complex team based in Singapore. We are a growing team diversifying across Asia Pacific power and carbon markets.

The main focus of the work will be on Japan and Australia power, but there is the option to explore related energy products or new markets within the region.

  • Develop fundamental analysis and models to support Japan and Australia power trading activities.
  • Maintain the infrastructure, flow and visualisations of Australia and Japan cost stack models (currently PLEXOS).
  • Share insights of cost stack model with traders and wider stakeholders within the business.
  • Connecting insights from analysis to drive commercial impact via contributions to trading strategies.

Job requirements and experience

  • Motivated individual, able to work independently in a fast paced trading environment.
  • Background in numerical discipline including but not limited to Engineering, Economics, Finance, Computer Science, Mathematics, Business Analytics
  • Experience working with data platforms and large datasets. Good knowledge of and experience using SQL and Python.
  • Experience with analysis development, from data sourcing, structuring your analysis approach, to delivering visualisation or modelling results.
  • Able to express your views and findings on the market to the trading team in a concise and timely manner.

Advantageous, but not essential

  • Experience with power fundamentals and/or constructing cost stack models.
  • Experience working within an energy trading team.
  • Experience with option modelling and structured valuations
