Job description

About Wavemaker Impact

Wavemaker Impact (WMI) is Southeast Asia’s first VC-backed climate tech venture builder, on a mission to reduce 10% of global emissions by 2050. We co-found scalable, commercially viable “100×100” companies—those capable of abating 100 megatons of CO₂ and generating $100M in annual revenue. Our portfolio spans agri-tech, clean energy, sustainable land use, and waste innovation.

As a Portfolio Acceleration Analyst, you will be a key contributor to WMI’s acceleration efforts post-venture build. You’ll work directly with seed-stage climate tech startups to help them overcome scaling challenges, enhance product-market fit, and meet climate impact targets. This role is suited for someone with strong analytical capability, interest in sustainability and innovation, and a proactive, problem-solving mindset.

What you’ll do

Activity Analysis & Operational Diagnostics

  • Work with startups to conduct deep-dive operational analysis using the Activity Mapping methodology.
  • Break down core business activities into sub-processes and identify operational pain points and choke points.
  • Maintain and update Activity Maps as dynamic tools for tracking progress and inefficiencies.

Scaling & Operational Issues Solutioning

  • Support walkthroughs of company processes to identify bottlenecks halting or slowing progress.
  • Track task performance and timelines to help diagnose workflow issues.
  • Classify issues as pain points (frictions) or choke points (blockages), and assist in designing intervention strategies.

Acceleration Support & Action Planning

  • Collaborate with the Portfolio Manager to develop a “portfolio of actions” for each startup, including:
  • No-regret moves (e.g. sales process setup, early hires, pilot launches)
  • Growth options and strategic bets
  • Track implementation timelines and metrics post-intervention.

Climate Impact & Compliance Analysis

  • Assist startups in assessing and improving carbon footprint via carbon accounting tools and methodologies.
  • Work with ESG specialists to align business operations with international climate standards (e.g. GHG Protocol, Green Building Code, etc.).
  • Help startups prepare reporting for impact metrics including carbon abatement, job creation, and sustainability benchmarks.

Strategic Research & Benchmarking

  • Conduct research on climate-tech trends, market dynamics, and comparable business models.
  • Support the fundraising process with competitor benchmarking and investor materials (e.g. pitch decks, financials).

Programme Execution & Team Support

  • Help coordinate cohort-based acceleration programs including workshops, demo days, and peer learning sessions.
  • Prepare briefing notes, case studies, and documentation of startup journeys and outcomes.
  • Contribute to WMI’s talent development efforts through knowledge-sharing and collaboration with external experts and institutions.

Who you are

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Environmental Science, Engineering, Economics, or a related field.
  • 1–2 years of experience in venture capital, management consulting, startup operations, or ESG/climate sectors preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfortable working with qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Familiarity with sustainability and climate-tech frameworks (carbon accounting, ESG reporting, lifecycle analysis) is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a collaborative working style.
  • Passion for startups, climate innovation, and building impactful businesses in Southeast Asia.

What we offer

  • A unique opportunity to work with some of Southeast Asia’s most innovative climate startups.
  • A collaborative, impact-driven team environment.
  • Exposure to founders, investors, and partners across the climate-tech ecosystem.
  • Growth in venture building, startup acceleration, and sustainability-focused consulting.
