Job summary

Job description

We’re seeking someone to join our Threat Hunt Team as a Platform Engineer in Cyber to seek out attacks against the Morgan Stanley network, engineer detection strategies, and reduce risk to Morgan Stanley assets.

About the Role

In the Technology division, we leverage innovation to build the connections and capabilities that power our Firm, enabling our clients and colleagues to redefine markets and shape the future of our communities. This is a Cybersecurity Engineering III position at Director level, part of the job family responsible for providing specialist cyber expertise and creating solutions that protect the organization’s systems and networks against actual and potential security threats and vulnerabilities.

Responsibilities

• Alerting and On‑Call: monitor alerts on critical services and follow runbooks for troubleshooting and escalation to SMEs.
• Server Administration and Maintenance.
• Serve as a DevSecOps point of contact for internal and external clients.
• Automation using Ansible, Python, Jenkins, etc.
• Take ownership of tasks and projects, work with the team, and manage time and tasks effectively and independently.
• Onboard internal and external users to the Cyber Data Platform.
• Work with internal SMEs on integrating new applications into MFA and troubleshooting core services.
• Collaborate with other Morgan Stanley teams via ServiceNow and other channels to install hardware, request maintenance, and troubleshoot network connectivity.
• Troubleshoot issues on the hardware level, local network configuration, switch level, firewall, or beyond.
• Leverage various technologies in a high‑paced team.
• Act as an SRE for the Platform Engineering team.

Qualifications

• At least 4 years of relevant experience in platform engineering and server administration.
• A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of professional training and experience.
• Experience with technologies such as Ansible, Python, Elasticsearch, OS deployment, and configuration.
• Strong experience with analytic techniques using primarily open‑source tools and development.
• Experience with container technologies (Docker and Kubernetes) and orchestration tools.
• Stay up to date on CVEs, OS patches, kernels, and software.
• Deploy patches for BIOS, firmware, drivers, kernels, operating systems, applications, databases, etc.
• Strong quantitative and problem‑solving skills.
• Experience with software development using Python, K8s, Elastic, NiFi, and Kibana.
• Proven ability to automate repetitive tasks and processes using scripting languages (Python, Bash) and automation tools.
• Strong understanding of DevOps principles and passion for building and maintaining automated CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to design and implement monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify and resolve issues.
• Proficiency in using Git for version control, branching strategies, and code reviews.
• Deep understanding of server hardware, Linux operating system (RedHat/CentOS preferred), and networking.
• Experience troubleshooting issues on the hardware level, local network configuration, switch level, firewall or beyond.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team as an individual contributor and in global time zones to provide coverage and overlap with geographically distributed teams.
