Job description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a results-driven and strategically focused Physical Trading Director to lead our global trading operations in iron ore, steel, thermal & coking coal , and other key physical commodities. This executive role carries full accountability for developing and executing trading strategies , expanding the company’s international trading network , and leading strategic market initiatives . You will be responsible for overseeing the entire trade lifecycle—from origination to execution—while ensuring profitability, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance.

This role is integral to shaping the company’s trading vision, managing high-value transactions, and driving sustainable business growth across global markets.


Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Trading Leadership

  • Develop and implement physical trading strategies that align with business goals and market opportunities.
  • Market and position the company’s trading approach to global suppliers, buyers, and financial stakeholders.
  • Identify and develop new trading opportunities through market intelligence, trend analysis, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Build and maintain a competitive and scalable international trading network.
  • Lead the execution of high-value, complex physical trades across iron ore, coal, steel, and related raw materials.

Commercial Development & Market Intelligence

  • Lead and mentor the trading and commercial teams to drive performance, market expansion, and value creation.
  • Oversee strategic market research initiatives to identify price movements, demand/supply shifts, and competitive insights.
  • Contribute to the company's overall commercial strategy and expansion roadmap.

Shipping, Logistics & Contract Management

  • Manage chartering, freight negotiation, and end-to-end shipping logistics for bulk commodity cargoes.
  • Ensure smooth coordination at load/discharge ports, including inspections, surveys, and cargo documentation.
  • Negotiate and oversee long-term supply and offtake agreements with global counterparties.

Risk, Finance & Compliance Oversight

  • Ensure full compliance with trade regulations, internal controls, and risk frameworks.
  • Oversee LC structures, trade finance instruments, documentation processes, and KYC compliance.
  • Coordinate with finance, legal, and treasury teams to ensure timely execution and settlement of transactions.
  • Monitor and report on trade P&L, credit exposure, bank limits, and cash flow performance.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, International Trade, Finance, Economics, or related field.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in physical commodities trading, with a strong focus on iron ore, coal, and steel .
  • Proven track record in leading trading teams and executing profitable physical trades across global markets.
  • Deep understanding of trade execution, international shipping, Incoterms, and chartering agreements.
  • Strong commercial network across Asia (especially China, India, Southeast Asia) and key international markets.
  • Expertise in trade finance, LC documentation, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Mandarin is essential to liaise effectively with Chinese counterparts.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
