PhD Research Associate (Industry PhD Program) – Artificial Intelligence, SAP Labs Singapore
SAP is seeking a PhD Research Associate to join the Industry PhD Program (IPP) in Business AI. The role combines full‑time research at SAP Business AI with PhD studies at the National University of Singapore (NUS). The successful candidate will work on cutting‑edge research in generative AI, large language models, multimodal retrieval‑augmented‑generation (RAG), and other AI topics, publishing findings in top conferences and journals.
Role
You will conduct research projects defined by real industry problems, publish results, and collaborate with SAP data scientists and developers to embed AI innovations into product code. You will be supervised both by an SAP mentor and a university academic supervisor.
Expectations and Tasks
- Push the frontiers of AI in an SAP‑defined research project
- Explore, implement, and improve recent research approaches
- Assess business relevance of AI solutions with business process experts
- Deliver high‑quality research results and scalable systems
- Communicate results visually and consistently
- Collaborate with data science and engineering teams to transfer research into product code
- Work effectively in global teams across time zones
- Adapt quickly to new topics, terminology, and development tasks
- Complete all PhD academic requirements on time
Required Educational and Experience Requirements
- Undergraduate or master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, or an equivalent field
- Acceptance into the NUS PhD program
- Experience with machine‑learning and deep‑learning software packages and frameworks
- Hands‑on skills with programming languages such as Python, C++, Java, or Scala
- Experience with large language models, generative pre‑trained transformers, or foundational models
- Strong desire to overcome obstacles and make work benefit SAP customers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Optional
- Publication track record on deep learning and machine learning
- Operational knowledge of Linux distributions
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies
