About the job

Dr. Pan Zhou, Assistant Professor at Singapore Management University (SMU), is recruiting fully-funded Ph.D. students (enrollment: Jan 2026, application deadline: June 30, 2025), as well as postdocs, visiting students, and scholars in the areas of large models, computer vision, and efficient AI, including optimization algorithms and fast inference algorithms.

About SMU:

Located in downtown Singapore, SMU is a top-tier research university. Its School of Computing and Information Systems ranks 84th in Computer Science, 39th in AI, and 51–75th globally in ShanghaiRanking.

About Dr. Zhou:

Dr. Zhou earned his Ph.D. from NUS and has conducted research at Princeton, Georgia Tech, Salesforce Research, and Sea AI Lab. With over 70 publications in top-tier venues (e.g., JMLR, TPAMI, NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML) and more than 7000 Google Scholar citations, he is an Area Chair for ICML, NeurIPS, and ICLR, and a recipient of the Microsoft Research Asia Fellowship.

Research Topics:

Dr. Zhou’s lab focuses on building efficient and effective AI systems, covering large AI models, reasoning and agentic collaboration, generative models, neural architecture design, and optimization algorithms for fast training and inference. His current students and interns come from top universities like Imperial College London, University of Amsterdam, NUS, NTU, Nanjing University, and Sun Yat-Sen University. Notably, some interns have successfully applied for PhD positions at CMU and postdoc positions at Harvard.

Ph.D. Admission Requirements:

  • Strong background in CS, ML, or CV with programming skills
  • Research experience and motivation
  • IELTS/TOEFL and GRE scores (no strict thresholds): TOEFL waived if your bachelor's was in English; GRE waived with an accepted publication
