Job summary

Singapore Sailing Federation is seeking a Performance Pathways Coach to plan and deliver high‑quality training for National Training Squad sailors at the National Sailing Centre. The role supports YPI planning, athlete development, and integration with sport science inputs.

You will help organise trials, camps, and events while maintaining records and contributing to coach development. Weekend work and overseas travel are expected as part of the role.

Qualifications

  • Relevant sailing coaching certification (e.g. World Sailing or SG-Coach Level 1 and above).
  • Prior competitive sailing and/or coaching experience; experience coaching junior/youth NTS-level sailors preferred.
  • Current First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain one within an agreed period of joining.
  • Comfortable working with young athletes and their parents/guardians, with the judgement and care appropriate to coaching minors.
  • Able to work training-day hours (including weekends and school holidays) and travel for overseas training camps and competitions.
  • Familiarity with, or willingness to be trained in, SSF’s FDES athlete development framework and Skill Acquisition Framework is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain yearly planning instruments (YPI) for squad sailors and support related documentation.
  • Apply FDES and Skill Acquisition Framework in training design and delivery.
  • Support sailors’ transitions between squads and sailing classes.
  • Liaise with sport scientists for fitness testing and nutrition education.
  • Provide basic physical preparation and mental skills support without replacing specialists.
  • Assist with SSF selection trials, events, and post-event reporting.
  • Complete administrative tasks (attendance, claims, records) promptly.
  • Attend coach development sessions and pursue further SG-Coach pathways.

Job description

Job Title: Performance Pathways Coach

Reports to: Head, Performance Pathways, and the relevant Class/Squad Head Coach

for day-to-day coaching direction

1. Coaching & Training Delivery
  • Plan and deliver, or assist the Class/Squad Head Coach in delivering, regular training sessions for assigned NTS sailors at the National Sailing Centre.
  • Develop and maintain Yearly Planning Instruments (YPI) for assigned squad sailors, and support sailors’ YPI-related documentation (e.g. for school and scholarship applications).
  • Apply the FDES framework and the Skill Acquisition Framework (including Nonlinear Pedagogy and Constraints-Led Approach principles) in training design and delivery.
  • Work with other Performance Pathways coaches to support sailors’ transitions between squads and sailing classes
2. Athlete Development & Sports Science Integration
  • Liaise with HPSI sport scientists to help deliver the Performance Pathways’ 360Performance Development Approach: regular fitness testing, a clear fitness training approach, and education in high-performance nutrition and sport psychology.
  • Provide sailors with basic, age-appropriate support in physical preparation, nutrition awareness and mental skills, in line with SSF’s coaching competencies expectations, without replacing the role of HPSI specialists.
3. Competitions, Selection & Events
  • Support the organisation and conduct of SSF selection trials and other squad events and activities, working with SSF operations and administration colleagues.
  • Contribute to the development of squad selection policies as coordinated by the Head, Performance Pathways.
  • Accompany sailors to selected local and overseas training camps and competitions as assigned, and submit post-event reports where required.
4. Administration
  • Complete claims, attendance records and other administrative matters for the squad promptly and accurately (e.g. expense claims, sailor records, certifications).
  • Support the coordination of SSF selection trials logistics (e.g. event registration, notices of race) with the Performance Pathways Admin team.
  • Keep sailor and coaching records up to date, including on the SSF sailor management system.
5. Professional Development
  • Attend and contribute to Performance Pathways Community of Practice sessions and other coach development activities organised by SSF.
  • Pursue continuous professional development toward SG-Coach / World Sailing coaching certification pathways, and participate in Individual Coach Development Plan (ICDP) reviews where applicable.
  • Perform other duties as reasonably assigned by the Head, Performance Pathways or CEO
