The School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, invites qualified candidates to apply for a Part-Time Lecturer for DF3010 Experimental Film Production. The Part-Time Lecturer is expected to teach an undergraduate core course commencing in August 2025.
DF3010 Experimental Film Production is a 13-week course focusing on the creation of films that allow experimentation in various stages of filmmaking processes including: screenplay, mise-en-scene, cinematography, scenography, music composition, sound design, and editing. Students will focus on the development of various alternate forms of (non)narrative story structures. During the semester, students will be assigned several exercises that will let them explore some of the major experimental film methods and approaches. These exercises will help students enrich their ideas of contemporary filmmaking. The main outcome of the class will be short experimental films, which students will conceptualize, film, edit, and present.
Applicants to this position will be able to demonstrate expertise in overseeing the audio aspect of students' projects related to digital filmmaking, from initial concept and screenwriting to production and post-production, culminating in the final sound mix. Applicants should demonstrate a passion for guiding students in exploring the possibilities of audio for film in various forms, including traditional scripted filmmaking, serialized content, non-scripted content, and short-format videos.
Successful candidates will have a relevant Master’s and/or PhD in audio or a related field with a track record of creative practice in film production. Past teaching experience at the undergraduate level is preferred. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Film Production or a related field and sufficient and relevant industry experience may also be considered in exceptional cases.
