The position
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented paralegal with experience in ship sale and purchase (S&P), financing and compliance to join the business support team.
As a paralegal, you will provide valuable support to the legal team and the business generally assisting in various matters while also ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
This role requires exceptional research skills, a solid understanding of legal procedures, and the ability to work independently.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Transaction support to the legal team including assisting in the drafting, review, and execution of S&P and ship financing documentation
- Liaising with Treasury, Finance, Technical, Projects and Operations teams in relation to planning and execution of S&P and ship financing transactions
- Liaising with commercial, technical, and external parties (i.e. brokers, international ship registries and external counsels)
- Preparing for and attending closing meetings
- Drafting and reviewing NDAs, service contracts, and other commercial agreements
- Conducting KYC/AML compliance checks on counterparties in accordance with internal procedures and international regulations
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date company records and making various regulatory filings as required
- Monitoring deadlines for legal filings, flag state renewals and corporate obligations
- Organizing legal documents and maintaining internal databases and trackers for contracts and transactions
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Law, Maritime Law, Legal Studies, or related field
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a paralegal or legal assistant role, preferably in shipping, commodities, or international trade, ideally with involvement in:
- S&P transactions;
- Ship financing transactions; and
- KYC/AML compliance screening
- Familiarity with common maritime legal documents and procedures/documentation required by international ship registries
- Excellent legal drafting skills and attention to detail
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Fluency in English; additional languages are advantageous
