Job summary

GESS in Singapore invites applications for Head of Outdoor Education. The role designs and delivers a whole-school Outdoor Education programme for Grades 1–12, aligned to IB PYP, MYP and DP and to the GESS mission.

Qualifications

• Recognised teaching qualification and a degree.
• Postgraduate qualification in outdoor/adventure education is an advantage.
• Significant IB PYP/MYP/DP teaching experience.
• Proven experience designing school outdoor education or expeditions.
• Outdoor leadership awards (land and water) recognised.
• Current wilderness or outdoor first aid qualification and maintenance.
• Knowledge of outdoor safety management systems and standards.
• Experience in line management, budgeting and working with external providers.

Responsibilities

• Lead, develop and support the Outdoor Education team.
• Design and maintain the whole-school Outdoor Education progression framework (Grades 1–12) aligned to the IB Learner Profile and ALP.
• Plan annual calendar of outdoor learning units, day experiences, residentials and expeditions, redesign Enrichment Week as culmination of year-round outdoor learning.
• Teach outdoor learning across the grades and lead the High School expedition and leadership strand (CAS link).
• Embed outdoor learning units in the written and taught curriculum with Heads of School and teachers.
• Monitor and evaluate quality of outdoor teaching and learning against school expectations; report to Directors.
• Run departmental meetings and communicate within the department, school and with parents.
• Inform the Director of Educational Programs of all relevant issues timely.
