Overview
The jobholder is responsible for providing a safe and clean environment for surgical patients, as well as supervising, guiding, and training new staff to ensure competence in their roles.
Job Responsibilities
- Ensure operational readiness of Minor Surgical Procedure (MSP) equipment.
- Check suction and diathermy machines for cleanliness and proper functioning.
- Verify operating lights for clarity and functionality.
- Clean, check, and prepare the operating table and accessories.
- Perform daily inventory checks on positioning aids and accessories.
- Maintain accurate records of all OT equipment inventory and report any losses, breakages, or faulty equipment to the nurse manager or Staff Nurse in-charge.
- Routine cleaning of OT equipment such as tourniquets, light sources, etc.
- Assist in ensuring efficient turnover of daily operations in the MSP room.
- Assist in the safe transfer and positioning of patients.
- Oversee the smooth operation of daily activities.
- Assist in both simple and complex cases.
- Promote teamwork, adhere to safe work practices, and infection control protocols.
- Perform cleaning of the MSP room between cases within 15 minutes (turnaround time target).
- Maintain a clean and safe operating room environment.
- Ensure the disposable suction liner is capped tightly before discarding into the biohazard bag.
- Ensure housekeepers perform terminal cleaning after infected cases, as per protocol.
- Maintain proper daily housekeeping of the MSP room, including the operating room, prep-room, clean utility, and dirty utility.
- Clear soiled linen and surgical waste to the designated area before the next case or when time permits.
- Participate in quality improvement activities such as 6S.
- Conduct in-service training and share learning points with colleagues.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Preferably with NITEC, Secondary 2, or equivalent qualification.
- Possesses initiative and eagerness to learn.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- On-the-job training will be provided; minimum 1 year of relevant experience preferred.
