JPT Opto-Electronics Pte. Ltd. in Singapore is seeking a hands‑on optical engineer to calibrate and support silicon photonics test systems.
You will help set up a new silicon photonics lab, work at the bench, and explain measurements to teams in English and Chinese. Role includes travel to China for training and factory acceptance tests. The position requires 2+ years in optical alignment/calibration, strong hands‑on skills, and the ability to document results with clear reports.
Join Our Team and Grow Your Career in Industrial Automation!
We are looking for a hands‑on optical engineer to calibrate and support our silicon photonics test systems. You will also help set up and run JPT's new silicon photonics lab in Singapore. You'll work at the bench with fibers, lenses and instruments every day, understand why a measurement reads the way it does, and explain it clearly to internal team and customers in both English and Chinese.
5-Day Work Week – Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Attendance Allowance
Travel Allowance – Based on travel region
Quarterly Department Dinners – Enjoy great food and team bonding
Monthly Birthday Celebrations – Celebrate special moments together
Career Growth Opportunities – Gain hands‑on experience in industrial automation and advanced technology
Friendly & Supportive Team Environment
Tool optical calibration and support at customer sites (first priority)
Install, align and calibrate the optical subsystems of our test systems: fiber arrays (FA/FAU), coupling optics, power meters, light sources and vision optics.
Run power and insertion‑loss calibration, coupling repeatability and stability checks, and keep calibration records.
Support factory and site acceptance tests (FAT/SAT) by preparing test setups, running optical test items, analysing the data and preparing alignment SOPs.
Troubleshoot optical issues, find the root cause, and work with our R&D team to fix.
Train customer to use and maintain the optical parts of the system.
Lab in JPT Singapore
Help set up the lab: bench layout, instrument selection and lab safety (including laser safety).
Plan and run optical experiments (DOE) on fiber-to-chip coupling, calibration methods and new test functions.
Write clear test plans, DOE reports and work instructions, and turn results into conclusions the team can act on.
Communication
Be the technical contact for customers in Singapore on optical topics, in English.
Coordinate with engineering teams in China in Chinese, and write reports in both languages.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Optics, Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
At least 2 years of hands‑on work in optical alignment, calibration or test, in semiconductor, optical communication or optical equipment.
Strong hands‑on skills: comfortable at the optical bench aligning fibers, lenses and free-space optics, and using power meters, light sources, OSAs, cameras and motion stages.
Understanding of test principles: optical power, insertion loss, polarisation, coupling efficiency, measurement uncertainty and repeatability (GR&R), and why a measurement drifts or fails.
Able to analyse data and write clear reports; basic Python, MATLAB or Excel scripting for data processing.
Strong communication: explains technical issues clearly to customers and colleagues, and stays calm and organised on customer sites.
Willing to work on customer sites in Singapore, with 25% travel to China (for training and factory acceptance).
Experience with silicon photonics testing: wafer probers, coupling, fiber arrays, PIC test.
Active alignment or automated optical coupling (hexapods, piezo stages, scan and peak-search algorithms).
Familiarity with optical transceivers, CPO or co‑packaged optics, or VCSEL/laser testing.
Experience setting up an optics lab, or with laser safety and cleanroom practice.
Experience with test equipment from Keysight, Santec, NI or similar.
