We are looking for an OpenShift Consultant to deploy, manage, and support enterprise Red Hat OpenShift platforms for our customers in Singapore. The ideal candidate brings strong Linux administration and Kubernetes experience, with practical expertise in OpenShift deployment, OpenShift Virtualization, troubleshooting, and day-2 operations.
This is a hands-on, customer-facing role covering platform implementation, ongoing operations, and collaboration with customer infrastructure and application teams.
Key responsibilities
OpenShift deployment and configuration
- Install and configure Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4.x in on-premises or cloud environments, based on customer requirements.
- Assess deployment prerequisites, including compute, Linux, networking, DNS, load balancing, storage, and certificates.
- Work with appropriate installation methods, such as Installer-Provisioned Infrastructure (IPI) and User-Provisioned Infrastructure (UPI).
- Configure cluster networking, ingress and routes, persistent storage, authentication, role-based access control (RBAC), and Operators.
- Validate cluster readiness and prepare deployment documentation and operational handover materials.
Day-2 operations and support
- Perform cluster health checks, monitoring, capacity management, and routine maintenance.
- Plan and execute OpenShift upgrades, patching, node maintenance, and cluster scaling with appropriate change controls.
- Manage Operators, certificates, access controls, resource quotas, and platform configurations.
- Configure and maintain monitoring, alerting, and logging to support platform reliability.
- Perform and validate backup and restore procedures for cluster configuration and workloads, using appropriate tools.
- Troubleshoot issues across Linux, Kubernetes, OpenShift, networking, storage, and application workloads.
- Investigate incidents, document root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinate with Red Hat support and customer teams to resolve platform issues and escalations.
- Deploy and configure OpenShift Virtualization to run and manage virtual machines alongside containerized workloads.
- Provision and manage virtual machines, templates, boot images, and persistent disks.
- Configure VM networking using Multus and appropriate network attachment definitions, including VLAN connectivity where required.
- Configure storage integrations and validate support for VM live migration, snapshots, and recovery based on storage capabilities.
- Perform VM lifecycle operations, monitor performance and availability, and troubleshoot virtualization, networking, and storage issues.
- Support VM migration from VMware or other supported platforms using the Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV), including assessment, migration planning, testing, and cutover.
- Plan host maintenance and VM live migration where supported, minimizing workload disruption.
Consulting and automation
- Understand customer requirements and recommend practical deployment and operational approaches.
- Automate repeatable deployment and maintenance tasks using Ansible, Bash, or Python.
- Maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and troubleshooting runbooks.
- Conduct knowledge-transfer sessions and support customer teams during handover.
Required experience and skills
- 6–8 years of overall IT experience, with a strong background in Linux administration and Kubernetes platform operations.
- At least 2 years of hands‑on OpenShift experience, including deployment and day‑2 operations; application deployment alone is not sufficient.
- Practical experience installing, configuring, administering, and troubleshooting OpenShift Container Platform 4.x.
- Hands‑on experience with OpenShift Virtualization, including deployment, VM provisioning, networking, persistent storage, and day‑2 operations.
- Understanding of KubeVirt, KVM, hardware virtualization prerequisites, and VM live migration requirements.
- Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills, preferably with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and familiarity with Red Hat Enterprise Linux CoreOS.
- Sound understanding of Kubernetes architecture and core resources, including pods, deployments, services, namespaces, ConfigMaps, Secrets, and persistent volumes.
- Experience with OpenShift cluster upgrades, node lifecycle management, Operators, and production incident troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of DNS, TCP/IP, load balancers, firewalls, proxies, TLS certificates, and OpenShift networking.
- Understanding of persistent storage, StorageClasses, CSI drivers, and backup and recovery concepts.
- Familiarity with platform security, including RBAC, service accounts, and Security Context Constraints (SCCs).
- Ability to use the oc and kubectl command-line tools and work with YAML manifests and Git.
- Clear communication, structured problem‑solving, and the ability to work directly with customer technical teams.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with bare‑metal or disconnected/air‑gapped OpenShift deployments.
- Experience migrating VMware workloads to OpenShift Virtualization using the Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV).
- Familiarity with VM backup and disaster recovery tools that support OpenShift Virtualization.
- Exposure to Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management, Advanced Cluster Security, Quay, or OpenShift Data Foundation.
- Experience with OpenShift GitOps/Argo CD, Helm, Kustomize, or CI/CD integrations.
- Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, and centralized logging tools.
- Relevant certifications such as Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration, RHCSA/RHCE, or Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA).
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
