Job description

Leadership

  1. Serves as a clinical role model and resource person on clinical problem solving and professional issues for the nursing staff.
  2. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to improve clinical processes and patient care that reflect nursing leadership role.

Patient Care Management

  1. Conducts clinical rounds, interprets, and analyses patients’ assessment data and exercises clinical judgment to make effective clinical decisions.
  2. Engages patients/caregivers in Patient/Family education to deliver holistic and family centred care.
  3. Attends to the needs of both internal and external customers professionally.
  4. Advocates for patients/caregivers in their continuum of care during their hospitalisation.
  5. Leads and guides medical and nursing staff in various specialised procedures and treatment.
  6. Supervises and guides staff to ensure safe, competent, and quality patient care, and compliance with clinical standards.
  7. Assesses, evaluates, and takes corrective action on care rendered by the team of nurses to maintain the highest standard of care.
  8. Monitors and ensures timeliness in compliance of service maintenance schedules of equipment and facilities.
  9. Collaborates and engages relevant departments to maintain a clean and safe environment for patients, staff, and the public.
  10. Investigates and replies to patient’s/caregiver’s feedback and conducts service recovery or performs remedial actions.

Research and Clinical Quality Management

  1. Leads in the implementation and evaluation of hospital procedures, protocols, and practice guidelines.
  2. Leads and conducts clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives to achieve clinical excellence.
  3. Plans and evaluates set targets as per departmental and hospital KPIs based on balance scorecard.

Financial Management

  1. Ensures the use of resources is maximised and maintains cost efficiency.
  2. Prepares annual budget submissions and ensures that expenditure is kept within the approved budget.
  3. Reviews, monitors, and evaluates the judicious use of consumables and clinical supplies to ensure economical and cost-effective use of resources when delivering care.

Human Resource Management

  1. Coordinates, conducts, and reviews orientation programmes and on-the-job training for new nursing staff and for staff on clinical attachment/training programmes and rotation.
  2. Reviews, maintains, and updates staff competency matrix and conducts core and unit-based competency assessments.
  3. Monitors, evaluates, and assesses staff competency and performance regularly to optimise professional development and patient care outcomes.
  4. Provides feedback on staff’s work performance objectively and discusses their strengths and weaknesses for improvement through counselling, career development plan and performance appraisal.
  5. Identifies, engages, and supports staff in their career development planning and learning needs to achieve professional aspirations.
  6. Evaluates and manages manpower and skill mix required in the Nurse Clinician’s assigned clinical area.

General

Performs other duties as assigned by Assistant Director (Nursing) / Deputy Director (Nursing).
