Job description

Position Requirements

  • Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree / Diploma in Music
  • Certification: Valid teaching certification from a recognized institution or authority.
  • Responsibility: Must showcase a track record of responsibility, both in professional settings and in interactions with students.
  • Understanding of Duty of Care: Recognize the importance of duty of care in an educational setting and act accordingly to ensure the well-being of students.
  • Experience: 2-5 years in teaching Music as a subject

Key Responsibilities

1. Curriculum Delivery

  • Plan and deliver engaging music lessons aligned with the school’s curriculum
  • Teach vocal and instrumental music, music theory, history, and appreciation
  • Incorporate different music genres and cultural traditions into lessons

2. Skill Development

  • Develop students’ musical skills including rhythm, pitch, melody, harmony, and notation
  • Identify and nurture musical talent through differentiated and student-centered instruction

3. Performance Planning

  • Prepare students for school events such as assemblies, annual day, concerts, and interschool competitions
  • Organize and direct ensembles, choirs, or orchestras as needed

4. Classroom Management

  • Create a positive, inclusive, and well-managed learning environment
  • Use appropriate behavior management strategies to maintain discipline

5. Assessment and Feedback

  • Assess student progress using formal and informal tools
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback and maintain records aligned with assessment policy
  • Complete formal reports and parent updates as per school guidelines

6. Resource Management

  • Maintain instruments, music equipment, and classroom displays
  • Ensure the responsible use and safekeeping of school music resources

7. Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects and whole-school initiatives
  • Communicate effectively with parents during PTMs and on matters of student progress

B. Child Protection and Student Well-being

  • Safety: Ensure a safe classroom environment, free from hazards, and be aware of emergency protocols;
  • Emotional Well-being: Recognize signs of distress, abuse, or other issues that might affect a child's emotional and physical well-being;
  • Reporting: Understand and adhere to mandatory reporting laws, ensuring that any concerns about a student's safety or well-being are promptly and properly reported to the appropriate parties;
  • Training: Regularly update knowledge on child protection policies and practices;
  • Confidentiality: Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information related to students unless disclosure is necessary for the safety of the child or as required by law. All teachers must act in the best interests of their students at all times and uphold the values, vision, and ethical standards of the school.

C. Additional Responsibilities

In support of daily school functioning, the music teacher may also be required to:

  • Take on class teacher / co class teacher responsibilities (where assigned)
  • Fulfil proxy or substitution duties during staff absences
  • Assist with student supervision during arrival, dispersal, and breaks
  • Support the planning and execution of school-wide events, even beyond the music curriculum
