The Singapore Teaching and Academic Research Talent (START) Scheme, co-funded by MOE and SIT, supports exceptional Singaporeans pursuing academic careers at SIT.

The Applied Research Fellowship provides doctoral candidates nearing completion or recently completed with opportunities for advanced training or research overseas for one year, including academic mentorship and potential consideration for an Assistant Professorship.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

  • Singapore citizen
  • Doctoral candidates close to completing their studies in relevant disciplines
  • Strong academic record and motivation for research
  • Accepted or applying for postdoctoral training at a leading overseas university
  • Interest in an academic career

Fellows will have a SIT faculty mentor and participate in faculty development programs. The fellowship lasts one year, with possible extension to two years.

Service Commitment

One year for each year of sponsorship.

Application Process
  • Applications open year-round, with consideration for those received before 15 Jan 2026 for the 2026 intake.
  • Interviews conducted throughout the year for shortlisted applicants.
  • Final interviews from mid-March to end-April 2026.
  • Awards finalized by July 2026.

  • Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering & Maintenance: Construction technology, tunnel engineering, BIM for civil and MEP, non-destructive testing.
