In research, SIT faculty aims to bridge the gap between knowledge creation and utilization. Our faculty work closely with industry on translational research and innovation, focusing on addressing significant industry challenges to positively impact businesses.

The Singapore Teaching and Academic Research Talent (START) Scheme is co-funded by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and SIT to support exceptional Singaporeans interested in pursuing an academic career at SIT.

The Applied Research Fellowship offers doctoral candidates nearing or having recently completed their studies an opportunity to engage in advanced training and/or research at an overseas university for one year. Besides financial support, awardees will receive academic mentorship. Upon completion, fellows will be considered for an Assistant Professorship.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

  • Singapore citizen
  • Doctoral candidates who have recently completed or are about to complete their studies in supported areas for START
  • Excellent academic record and high proficiency/motivation in research area
  • Accepted or applied for postdoctoral training at a leading overseas university in a relevant research area
  • Keen interest in an academic career

Fellows will be assigned a SIT faculty mentor and have opportunities for faculty development programs. The fellowship duration is one year, with possible extension to two years on an exception basis.

Service Commitment

One year for each year of sponsorship.

Application Process

  • Applications open year-round; submitted before 15 January 2026 for the 2026 intake.
  • Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed throughout the year.
  • Final interviews for the 2026 intake are scheduled from mid-March to end-April 2026.
  • Awards finalized by July 2026.

  • Financial and Sustainability Accounting: Focuses on measuring, reporting, and analyzing financial performance alongside ESG and carbon footprint considerations, integrating traditional accounting with sustainability for comprehensive stakeholder insights.
  • Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE): Encompasses planning, management, and execution of business events and large conferences, requiring expertise in event management, marketing, logistics, and stakeholder engagement.
