Job summary

National University of Singapore is seeking a Research Assistant to design and maintain mobile robotic platforms for construction assembly. You will develop end-effectors and tooling, integrate platforms, and implement embedded control and ROS 2 drivers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Control Engineering or related field.
• Master’s degree preferred for this research role.
• Practical mechanical design and fabrication skills including CAD, 3D printing, and machining/workshop fabrication.
• Experience with embedded systems and low-level control: microcontrollers, motor drivers, actuator and sensor integration, real-time control loops.
• Proficiency in C++ and/or Python; working experience in ROS or ROS 2.
• Prior experience with mobile manipulators, legged robots, or humanoid platforms is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, fabricate, and test end-effectors and tooling for grasping, placing, and connecting structural elements.
• Integrate and maintain mobile manipulation platforms, including power, compute, sensors, and safety.
• Develop embedded software and low-level control for custom tooling (firmware, sensor interfacing, ROS 2 drivers).
• Evaluate off-the-shelf platforms and translate findings into requirements and prototypes for lab platforms.
• Support hardware experiments and field trials, including rig setup, data capture, troubleshooting, and documentation.
