Job summary

JERAGM is seeking an Analyst, Middle Office to join the P&L team in a multi-location setup. You will produce, validate and explain daily P&L for assigned trade books and perform routine trade reconciliation and control tasks.

You will develop middle office capabilities, handle routine queries, and support transfer pricing, risk monitoring, and governance with colleagues across locations, including London.

Qualifications

  • Typically 3–5 years of relevant work experience in energy, commodity trading, financial markets or related control environment.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in economics, finance, accounting or similar quantitative discipline.
  • Exposure to commodities, P&L, Middle Office, risk, operations or trade control is advantageous.
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau and Python is beneficial.
  • Strong English communication and detail-oriented problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for the production, validation and explanation of daily P&L for specific trade books.
  • Investigate and resolve routine queries from traders or other departments related to P&L.
  • Raise queries on booking changes and business practices when unclear.
  • Validate deal entries to ensure accurate capture and valuation in ETRM.
  • Support maintenance of price curves, forward curves and related calendars.
  • Perform daily reconciliations between internal systems and clearing banks for exchange-traded products.

Job Description

Within JERAGM, the Middle Office is a multi-disciplinary function with overall responsibility for P&L production, market risk and credit risk management.

The Analyst, Middle Office will be an individual contributor within the Middle Office team. The role will support assigned BAU Middle Office processes and take day-to-day responsibility for the timely and accurate production, validation and explanation of P&L for specific assigned trade books. The role will also perform trade control and reconciliation activities, and develop strong technical Middle Office capability and commercial awareness through progressively greater ownership of assigned processes and trade books.

The Analyst, Middle Office will be part of the P&L team and will be responsible for:

  • Taking responsibility for the production, validation and explanation of daily P&L for specific assigned trade books, ensuring accuracy, consistency and integrity, and investigating or escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Investigating and resolving routine queries from traders or other departments relating to P&L-impacting topics, escalating complex or judgemental matters where appropriate.
  • Raising queries where proposed booking changes, deal entries or business practices are unclear.
  • Developing an understanding of how deal changes and bookings impact different departments and communicating relevant impacts where appropriate.
  • Validating physical commodity and derivative deal entries to ensure accurate capture and valuation within our ETRM.
  • Supporting the maintenance of assigned price curves, forward curves, algorithms and associated calendars.
  • Developing an understanding of the different funding requirements for futures and forwards and their impact on relevant stakeholders.
  • Performing daily reconciliations between internal systems and clearing banks for exchange-traded products and investigating reconciliation breaks.
  • Supporting day-to-day operational interactions with clearing brokers and clearing banks and escalating service or control issues where required.
  • Monitoring trading activity, positions and relevant market and credit risk indicators; investigating routine exceptions and escalating unusual activity, limit breaches, data issues or unexpected movements promptly.
  • Supporting the calculation and validation of IR and FX impacts on P&L and working with the Treasury team to investigate unexpected movements or funding impacts.
  • Supporting Finance in month-end financial closing processes.
  • Preparing weekly and monthly reporting and key analytics for assigned trade books and processes.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across locations, including London, to support consistent processes and share relevant information and knowledge.
  • Contributing ideas and observations that may improve the accuracy, efficiency and control of Middle Office processes, and supporting agreed improvements where appropriate.
  • Supporting new business activities and related governance and control framework matters and discussions, including supporting the drafting of audit responses when required.
  • Supporting contract and confirmation management for financial trades.
  • Participating, where appropriate, in discussions with Front Office, Front Risk and Risk relating to trading activity, positions and key P&L or risk drivers.
  • Maintaining clear process documentation and contributing to knowledge sharing within the Middle Office team.
  • Supporting TLE, Middle Office transformation and other special projects when required, including providing relevant BAU or process input.
  • Performing other additional tasks that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
  • Typically 3-5 years of relevant work experience, preferably within an energy, commodity trading, financial markets or related control environment.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, preferably in economics, finance, accounting or a similar quantitative discipline.
  • Exposure to commodities, P&L, Middle Office, risk, operations or trade control would be an advantage.
  • Experience in the following would be an advantage:
    • Power BI / Tableau
    • Python or equivalent
    • Data analytics and visualisation
  • Clear and effective communication skills in English, including the ability to ask questions and seek clarification when unsure.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work logically, quickly and accurately while managing multiple tasks.
  • Numerate and comfortable working with large and varied data sets.
  • Commercial awareness and an adaptive approach to problem solving.
  • Able to take ownership of defined tasks, organise workload and deliver to agreed timelines while seeking guidance where appropriate.
  • Collaborative working style and the ability to work effectively as part of a culturally diverse team.
