Job description

Medical Technologist (Blood Bank/ Hematology/ 3 shifts)

Responsibilities:

• Performs routine test procedures, automated or manual, in the laboratory with little direct supervision.
• Assists in training of new personnel.
• Maintains a clean and well-organized work area.
• Maintains proper inventory level of all supplies and reports any deficiency to the appropriate section manager or the designate.
• Reviews all daily QC results and discusses any problems with the appropriate section manager or the designate.
• Checks the performance of all instruments in the laboratory and reports any that are not functioning properly.
• Supports flexible staffing requirements in the department and participates in shift duties.
• Complies with all regulatory guidelines, participating in CAP proficiency testing, National proficiency testing, and inter-hospital QA programs.
• Participates in a routine maintenance program for instruments and in ongoing CME and professional programs.
• Develops rapport with all the laboratory staff as well as with other hospital departments.
• Any other duties as assigned from time to time by management.

Requirements:

• Recognized diploma or certificate in medical laboratory technology, or recognized Bachelor of Science degree or polytechnic diploma or equivalent.
• Preferably, at least 1 year of experience in a related medical laboratory.
