Job summary

Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore seeks a detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Technologist to support POCT operations across the hospital. You will monitor devices, ensure data transmission to LIS and EMR, and assist in device evaluation, training, quality programs, and accreditation readiness.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Laboratory Medicine, Clinical Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or an equivalent qualification is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in Biochemistry and/or Haematology in a clinical lab; prior POCT experience is a strong advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee smooth and efficient operations of POCT devices across the hospital.
  • Monitor centralized POCT data managers and connectivity between POCT devices and the LIS.
  • Ensure POCT data is transmitted accurately to LIS and EMR.
  • Plan and build for interfaced and non-interfaced devices.
  • Liaise with staff to resolve POCT issues.
  • Set up new POCT sites with vendors and users.
  • Maintain QA/QC programs and monitor POCT quality indicators.
  • Conduct internal quality audits of POCT sites for compliance.
  • Perform device evaluation and basic setup prior to site handover.
  • Train POCT operators on devices and workflow competency.
  • Support departmental operations and administration.
  • Assist with accreditation/licensing inspections (MOH, CAP).
  • Follow up on inspection/audit reports and close outstanding issues.
  • Update POCT sites on accreditation requirements.

Medical Laboratory Technologist (Point of Care Testing)

Responsibilities

Are you a detail-oriented laboratory professional looking to make a meaningful impact beyond the bench? Join our dynamic laboratory team and play a pivotal role in ensuring that Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) across our hospital is accurate, reliable, and always ready when patients need it most.

Your roles and duties will be :

  • Responsible for the smooth and efficient operations of the POCT devices in the hospital
  • Monitors the POCT centralised data managers and connectivity between POCT devices and the Lab Information System (LIS).
  • Ensures that all POCT data is successfully and accurately transmitted to the Lab Information System (LIS), and to Hospital’s Electronic Medical Record System.
  • Plans & builds for both interfaced and non-interfaced devices.
  • Assist to liaise with relevant staff (internal and external) to resolve POCT issues.
  • Assists to setup new POCT sites together with relevant parties (vendors & users)
  • Maintain quality assurance and quality programs in the Lab:
  • Monitors and tracks POCT Quality Indicators (QI).
  • Conducts regular internal quality audit of all POCT sites to ensure compliance to main laboratory standards.
  • Performs device evaluation and basic setup prior to passing devices to the sites.
  • Trains POCT key operators on device and workflow competency, to meet standard requirements accordingly.
  • Support the department in operational and administrative matters.
  • Assists with accreditation/licensing inspections by government agencies (e.g. MOH)and accrediting agencies (e.g. CAP)
  • Follows up on inspection and audit reports of all POCT sites to ensure corrective actions have been implemented satisfactorily and all outstanding issues closed.
  • Updates all sites where POCT is performed on matters related to accreditation requirements.

Working schedule for this role will be office hours, Monday to Friday with alternate Saturdays(AM).

Candidates with extensive and relevant experience will be considered for senior roles.

Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree or higher in Laboratory Medicine, Clinical Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or an equivalent qualification is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in Biochemistry and/or Haematology within a clinical laboratory setting. Prior POCT experience is a strong advantage.
  • Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast paced environment
  • Communicates clearly and confidently with stakeholders at all levels, from clinical staff to external vendors
  • Organised and meticulous, with the ability to manage multiple priorities across different sites within the hospital
  • Collaborative team player with a proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Able to train and guide others effectively
