Job summary

BeeX in Singapore is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to shape the hardware of Hovering Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (HAUVs). You will design mechanical systems, draft 2D drawings, and perform FEA to ensure structural integrity, working with a multidisciplinary team on sea trials and office work.

Ideal candidates hold a B.Eng in Mechatronics or related, with 0–3 years in mechanical product design, proficiency in SolidWorks, and hands-on experience with prototyping and PCB/embedded

Qualifications

• B.E./B.Eng in Engineering or related field.
• 0-3 years of mechanical product design experience.
• Proficient in SolidWorks and CAD design.
• Experience with prototyping and manufacturing methods (3D printing, laser cutting, CNC, welding, composites).
• Experience with FEA and CFD via SolidWorks, ANSYS, OpenFOAM or similar.
• Experience with battery-operated designs, embedded systems, sensors/actuators interfacing.
• Knowledge of PCB design tools (Altium) and 2D schematic/wire harness software.
• Experience with Git/version control.
• Understanding quality control and test procedures (EMI-EMC, vibration, temp, humidity).

Responsibilities

• Design and implement overall mechanical systems of HAUVs.
• Design mechanical components and electronics housings in CAD.
• Conduct FE analyses for structural integrity and stress.
• Draft 2D fabrication/assembly drawings.
• Assemble and test components in workshop and at sea trials.

Job Scope

You will report directly to the Hardware Technical Lead. Your daily schedule will include frequent interactions with a multi-disciplinary team, and you need to be equally comfortable working at sea trials and a normal desk in the office. You will need to work in Singapore.

• Design and Implement overall Mechanical Systems of Autonomous Platforms: Hovering Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (HAUVs)
• Design of mechanical components, mechanisms and electronics housings in CAD.
• Conduct Finite Element Analysis Simulation on design components for structural integrity and stress failure assessment.
• Drafting of 2D drawings for fabrication and assembly.
• Assembly and testing of designed mechanical components in the workshop and testing in real world environments.
• Sail out to sea for testing and evaluation of completed mechanical designs and other robotic systems.
  Design and Implement sub-components of our Hovering Autonomous Underwater Vehicle.
• Power electronics design to various system components, sensors and actuator systems.
• Wire harness and cabling design and production drawing generation(2D and 3D).
• Firmware development on microcontrollers such as Atmega and ARM for real-time control of hardware components.
• Bench-testing and field testing of key sensors and components for integration to our vehicles.
• Carry out intensive bench and in-water testing of our vehicles, and document performance.
• Stress testing of system components for harsh environment operations such as thermal, vibration, EMI-EMC and humidity.
• Gather user requirements in collaboration with management team and customers.
• Establish test procedures for mechanical quality control and regulatory compliance.

Desired Qualities and Skillsets

• B.Eng in Engineering (Mechatronics),Computer Engineering, Mechnical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related experience.
• 0-3 years of experience in mechanical product design from concept to product delivery to customers.
• Proficient in SolidWorks or equivalent engineering CAD design software.
• Experienced with prototyping and various manufacturing methods ranging from 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC, welding, composites etc.
• Experienced with Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics simulation modelling such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, OpenFOAM or equivalent simulation software.
• Experienced with corrosion control methods and thermal design methods is a plus.
• Experience with battery operated designs, embedded systems, microcontrollers, sensor and actuator interfacing.
• Experience with low voltage power electronics design for battery operated systems (power regulation, boost/buck conversion, power protection, load balancing etc).
• Experience with Altium designer and other equivalent PCB CAD software.
• Experience with any 2D schematic, wire harnessing and cable assembly design software.
• Experience with C++ for embedded systems programming and development.
• Knowledge of python is a plus for high level interfacing and algorithms development.
• Experience with git and version control systems.
• Experience with quality control and test procedures for tests such as in EMI-EMC, Vibration, temperature, humidity testing is a plus.
