Job summary

Careers @ Focal Search in Singapore seeks an engine technician to examine, test and maintain marine and diesel engines. You will disassemble components, reassemble and calibrate them to specifications after repairs, and carry out routine maintenance.

The role requires a postsecondary engineering credential, at least two years’ experience, and preferably offshore marine exposure with winches, hydraulics, piping and instrumentation.

Qualifications

• Trade or postsecondary education related to engines (diploma or degree in Mechanical/automotive/marine engineering).
• Two years of experience in the relevant sector preferred.
• Experience with offshore or marine engine systems, including winches, hydraulics, piping, and instrumentation is highly desirable.
• Experience repairing engines and compressors is advantageous.
• Diesel engines (Yanmar, Lister, Kubota, Deutz, HATZ) and Honda gasoline engines injector/high‑pressure fuel systems blocks/heads experience.

Responsibilities

• Examine and test engines to identify problems (visual checks, power checks, diagnostics, listening for unusual noise).
• Identify issues with fuel, ignition, cooling, lubrication, exhaust, air intake, and engine mounting.
• Disassemble engines or components for thorough examination (cylinder head, pistons, crankshaft, timing system).
• Reassemble and calibrate engines after repairs according to manuals and specifications.
• Carry out routine maintenance such as tune-ups, belt changes, oil and filter changes, and spark plug replacements.
• Run idle and load tests after repair to assess performance and optimize fuel usage.

Job description

• Examine and test engines to identify problems (visual checks, power checks, scan-tool diagnostics, listening for unusual noise, etc.).
• Identify issues with the fuel, ignition, cooling, lubrication, exhaust, air intake, and engine mounting/suspension systems.
• For a thorough examination and measurement, disassemble engines or their parts (cylinder head, pistons, crankshaft, timing system).
• Reassemble and calibrate the engine in accordance with manuals and specifications after repairing or replacing worn-out and defective parts.
• Carry out routine maintenance, such as tune-ups, belt changes, valve clearance adjustments, oil and filter changes, and spark plug replacements.
• After repair, run the engine (idle and load tests), assess performance, and adjust for
• efficient operation and appropriate fuel usage.

Requirements

• Trade or postsecondary education related to engines (such as a diploma or degree in Mechanical, automated, marine, or comparable engineering
• Two years of experience in the relevant sector is preferred.
• It is very desirable to have prior experience with offshore or marine engine systems, including winches, hydraulics, piping, and instrumentation.
