Job description

Job Purpose

We are seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated Mechanical Design Engineer capable of independently handling mechanical design tasks. The candidate will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing mechanical systems and components for various projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and client requirements. The engineer will also participate project tender and site to understand customer enquiry and expectation, develop concept design and support procurement team, communicate with customer, vendor and supplier to improve proposal process and quality.

Key Responsibilities

1. HVAC System Design:

  • Establish cleanroom design according to client desire and production need, prepare cleanroom architectural layout dwg by using AutoCAD, Revit, or other design software.
  • Develop mechanical HVAC system design following cleanroom design, prepare HVAC P&ID.
  • Calculate mechanical load requirements and size components such as HVAC heatload calculation, fan ESP sizing, pump head calculation, duct/pipe sizing, HVAC equipment model selection.
  • Establish HVAC control philosophy write-up, cause and effect analysis, develop alarm list and interlock mechanism.

2. Mechanical System Design:

  • Establish process utility design following customer’s tools matrix summary, such as CDA, Vacuum, PCW, Steam, Exhaust, Drain, Specialty Gas, RODI, WWTP and etc
  • Develop process utility P&ID and piping/ducting layout.
  • Develop plant room space management study and services routing from plant room to production floor.
  • Calculate mechanical load requirements and size components such utility pump/fan sizing, pipe/duct sizing, utility flow calculation.
  • Establish process utility system control philosophy write-up, cause and effect analysis, develop alarm list and interlock mechanism.

3. Project Tendering:

  • Review tender requirements, participate site visit, communicate with client to ensure the proposals meet client and project specifications.
  • Develop concept dwg and equipment schedule to enhance vendor and supplier knowledge on tender specification and specific challenges.
  • Participate tender costing exercise, support procurement team on proposal preparation.
  • Support procurement team to evaluate vendor/supplier proposal qualification, materials/equipment selection, ensure proposed solution sound practicable and reasonable, meeting quality and regulatory compliance, adhere tender scope of work, delivery schedule, deviations and partial compliance element.
  • Collaborate with vendors to improve competitive pricing for project tenders.

4. Project Management:

  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders to clarify requirements and resolve design-related issues.
  • Conduct system design presentation to explain proposed design, equipment selection, comparison of different design approach, convince client’s doubt and persuade business decision.

5. Documentation:

  • Prepare technical documents, includes MEP dwg, equipment schedule, RFQ/RFP, sub-contract work package specifications.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project files and records.

6. Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the electrical, control, civil, and architectural teams to ensure seamless integration of HVAC and mechanical systems into overall project designs and execution.
  • Review and evaluate supplier/vendor proposal, assist QS and project team on equipment selection and seek supplier/vendor clarification on design specification compliance and performance assurance.

Qualifications and Skills

1. Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Process Engineering or a related field.

2. Experience:

  • Minimum of [4] years of experience in mechanical design engineering, with a proven track record of handling projects independently.

3. Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in mechanical design software such as AutoCAD, Revit or similar tools.
  • Decent knowledge of hvac and mechanical codes and standards (e.g. ASHRAE, ISO-14644, SMAGNA)
  • Experience with project bidding, develop BOQ, material sourcing, compile project quotations.

4. Soft Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for client interactions and teamwork.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

5. Additional Skills (Option):

  • Electrical LV wiring design experience, such as cable sizing and develop SLD for LCP of mechanical system.
  • Understand general control and instrumentation logic diagram for mechanical system
