Job summary

VDL Enabling Technologies Group (Singapore) Pte Ltd is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to the development of complex systems for semiconductor manufacturing and high-tech applications. You will design, verify, and industrialize mechanical solutions across the product lifecycle, translating requirements into practical 3D models and detailed drawings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline.
• Approximately 3–5 years of mechanical design and development experience in semiconductor/high-tech equipment.
• Experience with precision mechanical assemblies and motion/ vacuum/ clean-environment equipment is a plus.
• Proficient in 3D CAD (NX/SolidWorks) and PLM systems (Teamcenter).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Own and execute mechanical development work packages from requirements to release.
• Translate requirements into detailed mechanical designs including 3D models, drawings, BOMs and specs.
• Apply principles in precision mechanics, dynamics, thermal effects, material properties, and perform tolerance analyses/ basic simulations.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechatronics, software, manufacturing, and supply chain teams.
• Support design reviews, prototyping, testing, validation, and transfer of designs to manufacturing.

Purpose:

As Mechanical Design Engineer, you contribute to the development of complex systems, modules and equipment for semiconductor manufacturing and other high-tech applications. The scope of work includes contract development of semiconductor manufacturing equipment, factory automation solutions, manufacturing tooling, and other precision mechanical systems supporting our customers' production environments

Working as part of multidisciplinary development teams, you are responsible for the design, implementation, verification and industrialization of mechanical solutions throughout the product development lifecycle. You translate requirements into practical designs, perform engineering analyses, create technical documentation, and support prototype and production activities.

You work closely with manufacturing and assembly teams, suppliers, and other engineering disciplines to ensure successful realization of robust and manufacturable products.

Key Area of Responsibilities:

• Own and execute mechanical development work packages from requirements definition through concept development, detailed design, verification, and release, under the guidance of senior or lead engineers.
• Translate system, product, and subsystem requirements into detailed mechanical designs, including 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, bills of materials, and technical specifications.
• Apply sound engineering principles in precision mechanics, structural behaviour, dynamics, thermal effects, material selection, and perform engineering calculations, tolerance analyses, and basic simulations where required.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechatronics, software, project engineering, manufacturing, assembly, and supply chain teams throughout the product development process.
• Apply Design for Excellence (DfX) principles, including manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, reliability and cost optimization.
• Support design reviews, prototype integration, testing, validation, and qualification activities, incorporating feedback to improve product performance and manufacturability.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and technical issues during development, integration, production ramp-up, and support the transfer of new designs into manufacturing.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Approximately 3-5 years of experience in mechanical design and development within the semiconductor, precision engineering, or high-tech equipment industry.
• Experience with precision mechanical assemblies, motion systems, vacuum systems or clean-environment equipment is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, precision positioning, dynamic behavior, material properties, structural strength and stiffness.
• Affinity with hands-on engineering, manufacturing and product realization.
• Proficient in 3D CAD software such as Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or equivalent, with experience using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems such as Teamcenter or equivalent.
• Familiarity with engineering analysis methods including tolerance analysis and FEA.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured approach to engineering challenges.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
