Hunt Talent Partners is partnering with a Singapore-headquartered precision engineering group seeking a Materials Engineer/Scientist to strengthen materials and surface engineering. The role focuses on new product design, material improvement and technology solutioning across metals, plastics and coatings used in semiconductor back-end processes.
You will drive material selection, surface treatments such as PVD/CVD and sputtering, and lead failure analysis with cross-functional teams to deliver
We are partnering with a Singapore-headquartered precision engineering group that designs and fabricates tooling, testing systems, and advanced solutions for critical semiconductor back-end processes, spanning across assembly, thermal management, advanced packaging, and final test. With an established presence across Asia and a growing global customer base, they are investing in their engineering capabilities and are looking for a Materials Engineer / Scientist to strengthen their materials and surface engineering function.
Reporting to the Head of Technology, you will take ownership of new product design, material improvement, and technology solutioning across the group's product portfolio, applying your expertise in metals, plastics, and surface engineering to solve real-world technical challenges and improve product performance. This includes providing recommendations on material selection and qualification across ferrous alloys, non-ferrous materials, and engineering plastics, as well as advising on surface treatments and coating processes such as PVD, CVD, electroplating, and sputtering.
You will conduct and support failure analysis and root cause investigations covering corrosion, wear, chemical attack, and other material failure modes, and work closely with CNC machining vendors on material-specific manufacturing requirements. Beyond the technical scope, you will also identify product-to-market opportunities by tracking market trends, customer roadmaps, and support business case development and go-to-market initiatives alongside cross-functional teams across Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Sales.
The ideal candidate is someone with at least 5 years of hands-on experience in materials science, chemistry, surface engineering, or a related manufacturing discipline, preferably within the semiconductor or precision engineering industry. You will need strong working knowledge of material behaviour in demanding environments including high vacuum, plasma, extreme temperatures, and corrosive chemistries such as halogens, acids, and solvents.
Experience with coating and plating processes (nickel plating, PVD, CVD, sputtering), elastomer and polymer compatibility evaluation, and analytical techniques such as SEM/EDS, FTIR, DSC, and optical microscopy will be essential. You should be equally comfortable in the lab and in cross-functional discussions, including commercial stakeholders.
