The Material Engineer is responsible for evaluating, sourcing, testing, and approving all materials used in the construction process, ensuring compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes. The role supports construction teams by ensuring that materials meet technical, environmental, and safety standards to deliver a high-quality, cost-effective project. ( Project involves the Waterfront Development )
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES• Review and approve material submittals and Material Approval Requests (MARs). • Ensure all materials comply with project specifications, standards, and regulations. • Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure the timely delivery of materials. • Conduct or supervise material testing, including concrete, asphalt, soil, steel, etc. • Maintain a material database and ensure deliverable traceability. • Liaise with QA/QC, procurement, and site teams regarding material issues. • Participate in technical evaluations for procurement and tendering processes. • Prepare material status reports and logs for client/consultant review. • Support sustainability and environmental compliance related to materials.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES• In-depth knowledge of construction materials and their standards (ASTM, BS, AASHTO, etc.) • Experience with material testing procedures and lab operations • Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001) • Proficiency in reading construction drawings and technical specs • Understanding of sustainability in material selection
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE• Good command of MS Office, AutoCAD, and relevant construction software • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Strong report-writing and documentation skills • Problem-solving and decision-making ability
