Purpose

Operations Technician / Senior Operations Technician:

The incumbent operates all equipment and facilities in his assigned area safely and efficiently and keeps them in good condition. They work closely in a team, maintaining communication and highlighting issues related to safety, quality, and efficiency.

Senior Operations Technician:

The incumbent is responsible for the smooth, safe, and efficient operation of assigned process stages. They ensure facilities are well-maintained and assist the production superintendent in directing technicians and deputies as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform batch/unit or ancillary operations safely and efficiently following SOPs, leading technicians when necessary, and conducting process checks using analytical instruments.
  • Carry out routine mechanical and lubrication checks, and perform early maintenance or repairs using hand tools when required.
  • Handle materials using hand-pallet trucks, reach trucks, or other equipment safely following SOPs.
  • Accurately record batch and operation logs, following Good Documentation Practices and ALCOA+ principles, and manage document errors appropriately.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors and colleagues, and hand over shift details highlighting safety, quality, and efficiency issues.
  • Assist in engineering tasks during process runs, plant changes, or maintenance, such as filter changes or equipment replacements.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in the work area, ensuring PPE and safety equipment are ready for use.
  • Perform firefighting and first-aid duties as trained.
  • Troubleshoot plant issues to minimize downtime and safety or quality incidents.
  • Propose and implement improvements to support departmental goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

Professional

  • Diploma in Chemical Process Technology, Chemical Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a pharmaceutical API plant
  • Experience in rotating shift work

Technical

  • Knowledge of GMP and safety procedures
  • Troubleshooting skills
  • Understanding of industrial standards
  • Knowledge of maintenance and operation of production and utility equipment
  • Plant inspection skills (for supervisory roles)
  • Familiarity with Permit-to-Work and Risk Assessment systems (for supervisory roles)
