Job description

Let's Talk About the Role The Manager, Supplier Engineering leads a team responsible for supplier performance, manufacturing process capability, product quality and supply continuity. The role provides people, technical and operational leadership across new product introduction, sustaining engineering, supplier improvement and business-critical supply activities. Working with Product Development, Quality, GSA, Planning, Manufacturing and suppliers, the Manager balances priorities, removes barriers and delivers quality, delivery, cost and risk outcomes. Leadership expectation: Build a balanced team with the capability, confidence and ownership to drive outcomes without constant management direction.

Let's Talk About Responsibilities

People and Team Leadership

Lead, coach and develop Supplier Engineers across different experience levels and manufacturing technologies. Set clear expectations, priorities and accountabilities, provide regular feedback and manage performance. Hire for autonomy and complementary capability, building a balanced team rather than relying only on individual technical strength. Empower engineers to make decisions, solve problems and drive outcomes independently within clear business priorities and decision boundaries. Build capability through coaching, delegation, targeted development, succession planning, recruitment and onboarding. Create a culture of trust, accountability, collaboration, inclusion and continuous learning.

Resource, Project and Stakeholder Leadership

Balance resources across NPI, Core, supplier performance, supply continuity and improvement work based on product, patient, quality and business risk. Monitor workload, project commitments and delivery, addressing capacity or capability gaps and escalating material risks with recommended actions. Partner with Product Development, Quality, GSA, Planning, Manufacturing and other functions to deliver objectives and remove execution barriers. Represent Supplier Engineering in project reviews, supplier escalations and cross-functional decisions. Ensure Supplier Engineering is appropriately involved in decisions affecting supplier capability, process robustness, validation or product quality. Communicate risks, impacts, ownership, decisions and required actions clearly and promptly.

Supplier Performance and Risk

Lead supplier performance management through KPIs, regular reviews, improvement plans and recovery actions. Drive timely, structured resolution of supplier quality, delivery and manufacturing issues, with clear containment, ownership and stakeholder updates. Assess and mitigate supplier risks relating to quality, capacity, delivery, technical capability and supply continuity. Develop supplier capability and resilience to improve long-term performance.

Technical, Quality and Compliance Leadership

Provide technical leadership and governance across relevant manufacturing technologies, including moulding, LSR, stamping, extrusion, assembly and automation. Ensure manufacturing processes are developed, qualified, validated and controlled using appropriate data, risk assessment and engineering evidence. Manage supplier-initiated changes and ensure SPVs, PPAP-related activities, CAPAs and other supplier quality deliverables meet required standards and timelines. Maintain knowledge of ResMed Quality Management System and ensure compliance with applicable policies, GMP, regulatory, health and safety, quality and environmental requirements. Support audits and monitor adherence to management system requirements within the team.

Continuous Improvement and Change

Improve Supplier Engineering processes through standard work, best practices, lessons learned and effective change leadership. Promote practical use of digital tools, data analytics and knowledge-management solutions to improve visibility, efficiency and decision-making. Perform other duties required to support Supplier Engineering and broader business priorities.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Tertiary qualification in engineering or a related technical discipline.

  • Five or more years of relevant manufacturing, supplier engineering, quality engineering or process engineering experience.

  • Demonstrated experience leading or managing professional engineers, including performance, development and resource allocation.

  • Experience working with suppliers or contract manufacturers and resolving complex technical or quality issues.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing process development, validation, change control, supplier quality systems and structured problem-solving.

  • Experience leading organizational, operational or business process change.

  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, negotiation and risk-based decision-making skills.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally for up to 25% of the time.

Preferred

  • Experience in a highly regulated industry, preferably medical devices.

  • Training and practical experience in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing and APQP methods.

  • Experience with A3, 8D, KT Problem Solving, DMAIC, PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, DOE or PPAP.

  • Experience across multiple manufacturing technologies and with NPI, product transfers, sustaining engineering or supplier risk management.

  • Experience driving continuous improvement, digitalization or operating-model change.
