Job description

[What the role is]

SFA’s mission is to ensure and secure a supply of safe food for Singapore.

The officer will be part of SFA’s enforcement team to ensure the food in Singapore are wholesome and safe for human consumption.

[What you will be working on]

Scope / Duties:


The manager/senior manager is required to:
1. Plan and conduct inspections and surveys to ensure the compliance to food safety and hygiene requirements for the following licensees/operators of local food establishments which may include

  • Retail food establishments

  • Non-Retail food establishments

  • Food producing establishments (farms)

  • d. Livestock-slaughtering facilities

2. Plan and conduct inspections and sampling for imported food and follow-up with importers for missed inspections and measures to take for food that has failed the regulatory tests. Initiate food recalls for unsafe food.


3. Attend to food safety feedback in licensed food establishments, including One Health (OH) and non-OH gastroenteritis incidents.


4. Attend, investigate and follow-up on public/industry feedback related to local food establishments which may require to work across various government agencies.


5. Conduct enforcement against any breaches of food safety legislations and licensing conditions which may include standing in court for prosecution cases.


6. Plan and conduct targeted operations to prevent and deter unsafe food practices including developing public communication materials.


7. Conduct review, develop initiatives and lead projects related to food safety, collaborating with relevant stakeholders such as food industry and other agencies, where required.


8. Support service of exigencies.

The officer should also be open to job rotation to other areas of work in SFA as part of career development. These areas could include and are not limited to jobs in industry and community partnership, media and communications, licensing, facilities management, corporate, and policy/planning.

Qualifications/ Experience/ Skillsets/ Other Requirements:


1. Adaptive and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
2. Possess good communication and writing skills
3. Team player, good interpersonal skills and resourceful
4. Knowledge and experience in food-related disciplines will be an advantage
5. Possess a valid Class 3 driving license and ability to drive personal/corporate vehicle for work will be an advantage
6. Knowledge and relevant experience in disciplines relevant to SFA, for example, economics, business development, food science or engineering, data analytics/management, plant science or agriculture/veterinary science will be useful
7. In the event of operation exigencies and/or requirements, be willing to work outside normal office hours, including weekend/public holidays
8. Able to use basic suite of Microsoft Office applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint. Knowledge and experience in data analytical tools and software is a plus factor
9. Be open to consider other work areas beyond the scope/duties
