Job description

What The Role Is

You plan and execute public and digital communication efforts in support of MINDEF/Singapore Armed Forces (SAF)’s communication objectives, principally to preserve and strengthen public trust and confidence in national defence, National Service (NS) and the SAF.

What You Will Be Working On

  • Formulate publicity plans mainstream and social media
  • Work closely with the media on feature stories as well as draft replies to forum letters and media queries
  • Develop the plans for local and international media engagement
  • Deal with the public communication of consequence management that involves incidents and unplanned events with a view towards maintaining public confidence in MINDEF/SAF


Challenge(s)

  • Working with multiple stakeholders to gain a thorough understanding of policy and operational issues, and then developing effective communication strategies that meet organisational objectives in a timely manner


What We Are Looking For

  • Education in Communication Studies, Political Science, Social Sciences, Information and Communication Technology, Digital Media or Information Science is preferred
  • Strong English proficiency
  • Additional language skills (Mandarin/Malay/Tamil) is useful
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Keen interest in Singapore’s media, political, defence and security developments, have a good understanding of Singapore’s media landscape, and be comfortable working with policy makers and staff departments
  • Meticulous and detail-oriented
  • Adaptability to work odd hours on very short notice
