Job description

Job Purpose

Financial Derivatives role within ICE Futures Europe (IFEU) responsible for daily Market Supervision (MS) operations across multiple asset classes internationally including: Oil, Utilities, Soft Commodities, Fixed Income, Metals, Equities, Indices and FX. In this role, the Operations Manager will contribute significantly towards the effective running of the department, demonstrating leadership on trade and settlement disputes as well as being responsible for direct reports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performance Development Reviews - undertake periodic and annual reviews for market analysts; conduct appropriate discussions and compose written appraisals for direct reports.
  • Recruitment - review candidate CVs; undertake interviews; participate in selection process.
  • Operational framework - manage staff shift patterns/leave and allocate supervision and settlement responsibilities accordingly.
  • Conduct annual policy and procedure reviews incorporating Sales, Market Regulation and other related departments.
  • Enterprise Risk Management - preparation and presentation of monthly departmental reports to senior management across various ICE Exchanges.
  • Price management - responsible for the maintenance of fair value in Futures and Options markets across multiple different asset classes around which price controls are applied. Essential for creating a fair and orderly market in which participants transact.
  • Trade disputes - oversee investigations of trades which are potentially away from value. Resolutions to be conducted efficiently, accurately and in line with published policy and documentation.
  • Settlements - expeditious and accurate calculation of daily and final settlement prices for IFE’s futures contracts which are used by ICE Clear Europe to calculate variation margin for participants.
  • General Operations - participation in multiple operational tasks in relation to the daily activities of MS; active involvement in the requirements and design of all MS toolsets and systems; maintaining online product resources.
  • Corporate Actions (CAs) - effectively source and analyse information to determine the impact of CAs on IFE’s Equity derivative contracts; undertake the required actions to ensure IFE’s products appropriately reflect this impact; disseminate this information to external and internal stakeholders.
  • Soft Position Management - position management of all IFE soft commodity contracts (cocoa, coffee, wheat and sugar), involving analysis of futures positions, physical stocks and physical market prices and communication with market participants.
  • Training - oversee the training of new MS staff to ensure familiarity with all departmental systems and procedures.

Product and technical knowledge

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all ICE toolsets and systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all IFE derivative futures and options markets.
  • Proficiency with industry toolsets
  • Broad understanding of ongoing regulatory developments and processes of IFE’s Compliance department.
  • Periodically, project work related to MS’s infrastructure, interdepartmental collaboration and provision of information to external sources require the manager to utilise their product and technical knowledge to manage and deliver proficient and professional results.

Qualifications and experience required

  • Degree essential - Economics/Finance/Business/Mathematics/Engineering/Science or similar preferred.
  • Experience working within financial markets, especially relating to derivatives preferred but not essential.
  • IT Skills - general Information Technology aptitude including advanced skills in Excel and VBA.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, interacting effectively at all levels.
  • Ability to operate effectively as a team member.
  • Methodical, quick thinker with excellent organisational skills.
  • Problem solving - proficient at identifying problems and working efficiently to resolve.
  • Strong drive to continually improve and develop working practices and industry knowledge.
  • Proven ability to operate and make decisions in high pressure trade and settlement dispute scenarios, and handle customers accordingly.
  • Capacity to effectively communicate and co-operate with other departments, (senior management and external organisations).

Miscellaneous

Training - access will be given to ongoing training programs to further develop technical and soft skills. Concurrently, derivatives industry expertise will be developed while working with experienced professionals through on-the-job training and networking.
