Job description

What the role is

About EDB

The Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), a government agency under the Ministry of Trade and Industry, is responsible for strategies that enhance Singapore’s position as a global centre for business, innovation, and talent. We undertake investment promotion and industry development, and work with international businesses, both foreign and local, by providing information, connection to partners and access to government incentives for their investments. Our mission is to create sustainable economic growth, with vibrant business and good job opportunities for Singapore.

About the Environmental Sustainability Division

The Environmental Sustainability division in EDB charts the vision and strategy for Singapore to transit to a low-carbon economy and leverage environmental sustainability trends as a growth engine. We also develop and execute national and ecosystem-level strategies to improve Singapore’s competitiveness in energy, chemicals and materials, and identify new growth opportunities in these industries. To achieve this mission, we undertake research, analysis and solutions development in close partnership with others teams in EDB, as well as external stakeholders in government and industry.

What you will be working on

This is primarily an individual contributor role. With guidance from the Vice President / Assistant Vice President, you will contribute to the identification and development of new sustainable growth sectors for Singapore, in the following manner:

  • Sense and analyse: You will conduct in-depth industry studies to uncover emerging green growth opportunities for Singapore. This includes analysing market size and growth potential, mapping value chains, assessing the strength of Singapore's existing ecosystem to support new opportunities, and evaluating Singapore's competitive positioning and right to win. You will structure complex industries and distill insights in a clear and compelling manner for senior stakeholders and decision-makers.

  • Horizon scanning and prioritisation: You will continuously scan global trends, technologies and business models in environmental sustainability to identify potential new growth sectors for Singapore. You will make rapid assessments of emerging opportunities to determine which warrant deeper investigation and which are not relevant for Singapore's context, ensuring the team focuses resources on the highest-potential areas.

  • Develop and execute: You will recommend specific interventions and strategies for how Singapore can best position itself to win in identified green growth sectors. This includes working closely with teams across EDB and relevant government agencies to design value propositions, avoid duplication of efforts, and coordinate approaches to sector development. You will also engage with companies, both established players and emerging innovators, to validate study findings, gather market intelligence, and conduct initial investment promotion activities.

  • Stakeholder management: You will work independently to navigate across multiple internal and external stakeholders, building relationships with government agency partners and industry players to gather insights, align on priorities, and drive execution of green growth initiatives. You will also assist the Vice President/ Assistant Vice President in preparing for key meetings with stakeholders and assess relevant policy and initiative proposals.

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, critical and lateral thinking skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Ability and experience in engaging and managing both internal and external stakeholders
