Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of corporate business experience in a financial institution within the last 5 years.
  • Practical knowledge in ship finance sales and examination, including risk analysis methods and contract drafting know-how.
  • More than 3 years of experience in ship export and cross-border vessel ownership with knowledge of commercial structures.
  • More than 3 years of experience working in a Treasury department in a financial institution.
  • Hands-on knowledge on Facility Agreements with regard to Japanese and Singaporean law.
  • Practical knowledge of SWIFT and international fund transfer operations.

Job Description

  • Iyo Bank Singapore Branch is the international hub of Iyo Bank, one of Japan’s leading regional financial institutions. As part of our strategic expansion in Asia, the Singapore office plays a key role in supporting global clients with sophisticated financial solutions particularly in the area of ship finance, which forms the core of our overseas business. We are seeking a Manager to lead the operational aspects of our business development activities in Singapore. The successful candidate will oversee client relationship management, coordinate complex financing deals, and contribute to long-term business growth across Singapore, Japan, and other key Asian markets.
  • Responsible for executing business development operations in Singapore, with a focus on managing client accounts and strengthening key relationships to support the bank’s strategic growth.
  • Support the Division Head in shaping and executing long-term growth strategies by leveraging deep expertise in key business domains, while managing team members to expand the bank’s presence across Singapore, Japan, and other Asian markets.
  • Develop and manage global client relationships for deposits and loans, with a strong focus on ship finance. Responsibilities include coordinating, negotiating, and executing financing contracts, as well as overseeing post-financing processes such as financial analysis, credit rating assignment, and covenant monitoring.
  • Manage treasury activities involving major currencies such as U.S. dollars, Singapore dollars, Japanese yen, and Swiss francs, ensuring efficient and compliant fund operations.
  • Engage closely with shipbuilders, trading companies, and brokers to understand the financing and deposit needs of shipowners. Leverage up-to-date market insights to craft compelling proposals, lead high-level negotiations, and close ship finance deals effectively.
  • Support the stable execution and growth of Iyo Bank’s core overseas business in ship finance by reporting to the Division Head on stakeholder needs and negotiation progress.
  • Assist management in steering negotiations with Japan headquarters, ensuring financing arrangements are in line with the bank’s global business strategy and governance framework.

Job Requirements

  • At least 10 years of corporate business experience in a financial institution within the last 5 years. Expert knowledge and experience in Singapore and Japanese financial market, as well as knowledge and working experience in corporate financing, including rating methodology, financial statement analysis, and covenant management are required.
  • Practical knowledge in ship finance sales and examination (incl. risk analysis methods, contract drafting know-how, post-execution management, administrative knowledge at the time of ship sale). An in-depth understanding on the global shipping market and knowledge of recent market trends, such as charter rates, second-hand prices, trends in ship finance and interest rates are also essential for this position.
  • More than 3 years of experience in ship export and cross-border vessel ownership, with knowledge of commercial structures, joint ownership schemes, and maritime-related financing.
  • More than 3 years of experience working in a Treasury department in a financial institution. Candidates are required to have handled US Dollars, Singapore Dollars, Japanese Yen, and Swiss Francs as Call Money or Currency Swap.
  • Hands-on knowledge on Facility Agreements (especially with regard to Japanese, Singaporean and English law (including tax haven countries) ) in relation to the execution of agreements associated with financing operations, and experience in negotiating and coordinating with clients and lawyers.
  • Practical knowledge of SWIFT and international fund transfer operations, and experience in trade finance including Letter of Credit
  • Business-level proficiency in both verbal and written English and Japanese (equivalent to JLPT N1) is required to manage finance projects with various stakeholders and make negotiations to senior management of key clients and fulfill accountability to stakeholders and management of HQ in Japan.
