Job Summary

The Logistics Manager is responsible for operational excellence of the teams under his/her care. He/she manages profit and loss for each customer, fosters a culture of excellent customer service, conducts manpower planning and deployment, and ensures operating costs are controlled. The role also involves developing additional business from existing clients.

Role & Responsibilities
Operations Excellence
  • Oversee the smooth running of day-to-day operations.
  • Ensure teams follow SOPs and investigate non-compliance.
  • Adhere to PSA BDP Health, Safety & Environmental and Security Policies and Standards.
  • Ensure audit checks on all outgoing documents are performed by team leaders.
  • Communicate and coach team members on best practices and pitfalls.
  • Conduct team and inter-department meetings to resolve bottlenecks and improve customer service.
  • Maintain credible backup plans with cross-trained team members.
  • Manage the team to achieve operational excellence.
  • Create a customer service culture emphasizing prompt and proactive responses.
  • Assist customers in resolving shipping issues.
  • Hold regular operational meetings with customers for feedback and issue resolution.
  • Investigate customer complaints and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with other departments to enhance customer experience.
People Management
  • Plan manpower resources to balance workload and enhance productivity.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and coaching.
  • Train potential leaders for succession planning.
  • Mentor team leaders for independence and issue management.
  • Orient and induct new staff effectively.
  • Provide on-the-job and leadership training.
  • Create a motivating work environment.
Cost Management
  • Analyze profit & loss statements to identify issues.
  • Propose cost containment measures.
  • Monitor and follow up on customer payments.
  • Streamline processes to reduce wastage and costs.
Business Development
  • Participate in joint sales calls with the sales team.
  • Prepare quotations for tenders.
  • Provide prompt pricing quotations to sales or customers.
Performance Reporting
  • Analyze operational statistics and submit monthly reports.
  • Submit monthly KPIs reports to customers.
Strategic Planning and Budgeting
  • Define the business direction of the department.
  • Ensure revenue, cost, and profit targets are met as per budget.
Job Requirements
  • Diploma or Degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management is an advantage.
  • Minimum 6 years of managerial experience in forwarding, shipping, documentation, or logistics industry.
  • Good knowledge of import/export procedures across air, land, and sea freight.
  • Knowledge of forwarding, shipping, and documentation processes.
  • Understanding of Letters of Credit.
  • Experience in management reporting and writing skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with IT systems is an advantage.
  • Experience with SAP and other logistics systems.
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements and industry regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong customer service and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven leadership and management capabilities.
  • Experience managing teams of more than 10 members.
