A leading healthcare provider in Singapore is seeking a Locum Medical Officer for a 6-month contract. The position involves comprehensive patient care in adult psychiatry, requiring active clinical practice and relevant medical qualifications. Ideal candidates must have at least 3 years of experience and full registration with the Singapore Medical Council.
Position: Locum Medical Officer (6 months’ contract)
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1 Performs patient care including admission, transfer, discharge, clinic consultation, as directed by supervisor.
2 Clerks all new cases (i.e. taking the history, examining the patient and making a diagnosis/provisional diagnosis) in the general adult psychiatry wards and on admission of the patient into the ward.
3 Examines and initiates urgent treatment of violent and disturbed patients and physically ill patients.
4 Does night duties and outside office hours rounds when rostered on calls. This may include seeing cases in the general adult psychiatry wards or attending to calls from the wards.
5 Participates in the general management and care of all patients under his/her care, including the ordering of ECT and management of ECT patients.
6 Ensures that all investigations ordered and treatment prescribed are carried out.
7 Consult the senior doctor (e.g. ward consultant, specialist on call) about the clinical management of patients whenever in doubt.
8 Ensures that all service request forms are properly completed.
9 Updates and completes all medical records. The Inpatient Discharge Summary Form should be completed within 3 days of the patient’s discharge.
10 Obtains consent for ECT (Electro-Convulsive Therapy) and investigation procedures after explaining the operation or procedure to patient or his/her relatives. He/She who is privileged will perform ECT on patients selected for therapy.
11 Sees all relatives to brief them on the patient’s condition after ensuring that they are genuine relatives.
12 Attends all Departmental ward rounds including the combined Department or hospital’s teaching seminars, case conferences except when on active admitting duty or when attending to an urgent matter.
