Position: Locum Medical Officer (6 months’ contract)
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs patient care including admission, transfer, discharge, clinic consultation, as directed by supervisor.
- Clerks all new cases (i.e. taking the history, examining the patient and making a diagnosis/provisional diagnosis) in the general adult psychiatry wards and on admission of the patient into the ward.
- Examines and initiates urgent treatment of violent and disturbed patients and physically ill patients.
- Does night duties and outside office hours rounds when rostered on calls. This may include seeing cases in the general adult psychiatry wards or attending to calls from the wards.
- Participates in the general management and care of all patients under his/her care, including the ordering of ECT and management of ECT patients.
- Ensures that all investigations ordered and treatment prescribed are carried out.
- Consult the senior doctor (e.g. ward consultant, specialist on call) about the clinical management of patients whenever in doubt.
- Ensures that all service request forms are properly completed.
- Updates and completes all medical records. The Inpatient Discharge Summary Form should be completed within 3 days of the patient’s discharge.
- Obtains consent for ECT (Electro-Convulsive Therapy) and investigation procedures after explaining the operation or procedure to patient or his/her relatives. He/She who is privileged will perform ECT on patients selected for therapy.
- Sees all relatives to brief them on the patient’s condition after ensuring that they are genuine relatives.
- Attends all Departmental ward rounds including the combined Department or hospital’s teaching seminars, case conferences except when on active admitting duty or when attending to an urgent matter.
Requirements:
- MBBS registrable with Singapore Medical Council
- Must have obtained Full Registration with Singapore Medical Council
- Possess at least 3 years of post housemanship working experience as a medical officer (or equivalent) in the relevant discipline
- Remain in active clinical practise for the immediate past 3 years
