Job Summary

UD Trucks is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Legal Counsel to join our team in Singapore. Reporting directly to the Lead Counsel for Hub APAC, this role will provide legal support for Corporate Affairs and other legal matters across Singapore, Malaysia, and other markets in the Hub as required. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3-5 years of legal experience, a strong understanding of corporate and commercial law, and a passion for the commercial vehicle industry. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the legal operations of a leading global trucking and transportation solutions provider.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and support on corporate affairs, compliance, and regulatory matters in Singapore, Malaysia, and other APAC markets as needed, with a focus on the commercial vehicle industry.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, agreements, and legal documents, including supplier agreements, distribution agreements, joint venture partnerships, and after-sales service agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with local laws and regulations across the region, particularly those relevant to the commercial vehicle sector, including vehicle safety, emissions standards, and trade compliance.
  • Support the Lead Counsel in managing legal risks, resolving disputes, and addressing industry-specific challenges unique to the trucking and transportation industry.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including business teams, to provide timely and practical legal solutions that align with UD Trucks' strategic goals.
  • Monitor and advise on changes in legislation and regulations affecting the commercial vehicle business, including environmental, trade, and transportation laws.
  • Assist in managing external legal counsel and vendors as required, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality legal services.
  • Handle ad-hoc legal projects and tasks as assigned by the Lead Counsel, including corporate governance, intellectual property, and employment law matters.

Qualifications And Requirements

  • Education: Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB or equivalent).
  • Certification: Qualified to practice law in Singapore (admitted to the Singapore Bar).
  • Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in corporate law, commercial law, or a related field, with exposure to the commercial vehicle industry being a strong advantage.
  • Regional Knowledge: Familiarity with legal frameworks in Singapore, Malaysia, and other APAC markets is a plus.
  • Skills:

oProactive, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.

  • Language: Proficiency in English (written and spoken); additional languages are a plus.
