Job summary

Samsung Electronics Device Solutions is seeking a Legal Counsel to oversee legal and compliance matters across Singapore, Malaysia, and India. You will advise on corporate, commercial, employment, IP and privacy laws, draft and negotiate agreements, and manage compliance programs.

The role reports to the Senior Manager of Financial Management and requires leadership in risk mitigation and regulatory adherence.

Qualifications

• Law degree required with admitted status in Singapore or equivalent
• Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in corporate/commercial law and contract negotiations
• Experience working in a law firm environment
• Ability to work independently while maintaining collaboration across organizational levels
• Proficiency in English; strong logical and analytical thinking
• Highly motivated with adaptability to a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

• Advise business units on corporate, commercial, employment, competition, IP, privacy, litigation, anti-corruption and consumer protection laws to ensure compliance and mitigate risk
• Draft, review and negotiate NDAs, sales/distribution, service and consulting contracts
• Manage legal and compliance process systems for efficiency and regulatory adherence
• Oversee disputes and coordinate with external counsel to resolve issues
• Provide clear legal guidance to HQ on regional/global matters
• Administer compliance programs, train employees, maintain records, liaise with HQ
• Update policies to align with Singapore laws and evolving developments
• Monitor legal trends and potential impacts and advise accordingly
• Act as Data Protection Officer and manage data protection compliance

About the Role

The Legal Counsel will be responsible for legal and compliance functions in Singapore, Malaysia and India. This position is an individual contributor role and reports to the Senior Manager of the Financial Management function, this role handles and oversees diverse legal matters and compliance programs.

Responsibilities

• Advise business units on corporate, commercial, employment, competition, intellectual property, privacy, litigation, anti-corruption, and consumer protection laws to ensure legal compliance and risk mitigation
• Draft, review, and negotiate agreements including NDAs, sales/distribution, service, and consulting contracts to secure favorable terms and protect company interests
• Manage legal and compliance process systems to maintain operational efficiency and regulatory adherence
• Oversee legal disputes and litigation by coordinating with external counsel to resolve issues effectively
• Provide clear, actionable legal advice to headquarters on various legal and compliance matters upon request
• Administer company compliance programs by conducting employee training, preparing educational materials, maintaining records, and liaising with HQ on regional/global requirements
• Update and implement business policies to align with Singapore laws and evolving legal developments
• Monitor legal trends and changes to proactively advise the company on potential impacts
• Act as the Data Protection Officer, managing data protection compliance and related responsibilities

Qualifications
