Job description

A reputable financial services client of ours is seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Legal & Compliance Counsel with strong sanctions knowledge to be a part of their team. In this role, you will be providing expert legal advice on economic sanctions and embargo laws across their regional operations. You will play a key role in helping the company navigate complex regulatory environments while supporting responsible growth and risk management.

Responsibilities
  • You will advise on international sanctions law while supporting internal investigations and regulatory inquiries related to sanctions compliance.
  • Review and approve transactions, clients, and counterparties from a sanctions perspective.
  • Partner with Compliance, Risk, Operations, and Business teams on sanctions-related matters.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments and assess their impact on the business.
  • Develop and deliver training and awareness programs for sanctions compliance.
  • Help design and enhance policies, procedures, and controls related to sanctions.
What we are looking for
  • Common law qualified with at least 8+ years PQE, preferably in financial services or a related field.
  • Deep understanding of global sanctions frameworks.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly.
  • Practical, business-minded, and solutions-oriented approach.
