Goldman Sachs Asset Management is part of the Asset & Wealth Management Division of the firm (AWM).Our leading global active asset manager with a top alternatives business delivers investment and advisory services across public and private markets for the world’s foremost institutions, financial advisors, and individuals.

We are looking for an attorney based in Singapore with solid asset management experience to join our team. The role will be within the AWM Legal team in Asia Pacific. Together with other AWM Legal team members in the region, the candidate will support the continuing growth of the AWM business, in particular in Asia ex Japan.

The candidate should have substantive experience advising on legal and regulatory aspects of the asset management business across Asia ex Japan. Key responsibilities will include working on fund formation, fundraising, structuring and registration of domestic and offshore funds (including alternatives fundraising), advising and negotiating segregated managed account mandates, advising on corporate governance and internal committee procedures, supporting various strategic initiatives and providing high-quality and value-added legal and regulatory advice on all aspects of the business.

The candidate will also work closely with the broader AWM Legal team in other parts of Asia Pacific (Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and Japan), and with other AWM Legal teams in the US and EMEA.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • AWM Legal act as internal legaladvisors to the AWMbusinessacross Asia ex Japanon a variety of strategic growth initiatives, including new business opportunities in the region, client-specific issues and issues relating to risk management and governance. Our lawyers and legal professionals are highly valued for their critical judgment on legal, policy, reputational and commercial considerations
  • AWM Legalwork closely with business stakeholders as well as Operations, Fund Controllers, Compliance, Risk, Engineering and other teams supporting the business
  • AWMLegal advise sales professionals on all aspects of client relationship, from pitches through to the structuring of bespoke investment solutions, negotiation of fund or client documentation and support on transaction-specific issues
  • AWM Legal assist in developing new products and transactional or distributionstructures by advising on applicable law, assessing legal and regulatory risks across jurisdictions as well as the analysis and implementation of new regulations impacting AWM products and services, raising and resolving relevant legal and policy issues, coordinating with other functions within Goldman Sachs (as well as with other practice groups in Goldman Sachs Legal Division) globally and acting as liaison with outside counsel on a broad range of domestic and cross border jurisdictional issues, including licensing and selling restrictions and product offering issues

SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

We are targeting qualified lawyers with 15 - 20 years PQE

  • Candidates will need to demonstrate a strong grounding in asset management rules and regulations, preferably across Asia ex Japan, as well as knowledge of the regulatory framework and/or the product areas relevant to the AWM business
  • Candidates are expected to have relevant post-qualification experience either with a reputable law firm or as in-house counsel
  • Thought leader, strong analytical skills and sound judgment
  • Strong project and time management skills
  • Motivation to expand skill set and excel in a challenging business environment
  • Mandarin language capabilities a plus due to dealing with Mandarin speaking clients regarding China Markets, financial products and technical regulations
