The School of Chemical & Life Sciences (CLS) offers a wide range of courses to train technologists for the following key industries: food, chemicals, biopharmaceuticals and healthcare.

The job of an academic is challenging and meaningful. Not only will he/she have both the technical knowledge and working experience in the relevant discipline, he/she must possess a passion for working with both young and adult learners, nurturing them to be work ready, life ready and world ready. There will be developmental opportunities to develop curriculum, introduce new programs as well as be involved in consultancy, industry and applied research projects. Administrative work related to teaching and school/institutional strategic initiatives will be an important part of the job too. Successful candidates will be expected to be resourceful and innovative with initiative and good communication skills.

[What you will be working on]

The appointee must be competent to teach two or more of the following areas:

  • Basic Chemistry (analytical, organic, inorganic, and/or physical chemistry)
  • Cosmetic Science /applications / evaluation
  • Fragrances applications / evaluation
  • Sustainability in chemical industry
  • Material / polymer processing / testing / characterisation
  • Coatings / formulations
  • Specialty chemicals


Responsibilities: -

  • Conduct lessons and facilitate learning: deliver lectures, tutorials and practical sessions for both Pre-Employment Training (PET) and Continuing Education and Training (CET) students, fostering an engaging and effective learning environment.
  • Curriculum development and enhancement: design new curricula and maintain existing teaching materials, including regular reviews and updates to improve learning outcomes, student performance and employability.
  • Development of teaching and assessment materials: prepare and maintain comprehensive teaching resources such as e-learning content, laboratory experiments, assignments and assessment tools to support diverse learning needs.
  • Integration of industry experience: share professional insights and experiences from the industry to contextualise learning, bridge the gap between theory and practice and enhance students’ industry readiness.
  • Supervision of student projects and internships: guide and mentor students in completing industry-related projects, participate in consultancy work and serve as liaison officers to coordinate student internships.
  • Continuous professional development: stay current with trends, innovations, and developments in the chemical industry to ensure curricula remain relevant and aligned with industry practices.
  • Student enrichment and support: enrich students’ learning through activities beyond the classroom, such as preparing for competitions, offering career guidance and leading overseas learning and community engagement initiatives.
  • Support for school initiatives: contribute to the school’s strategic priorities through active participation in committees, institutional projects, and collaborations with industry partners.
  • Teaching administration: manage teaching-related administrative tasks, including the preparation of lesson materials, coordination of assessments within the teaching team, and documentation of student progress.
  • Pastoral care and student welfare: provide pastoral support to students, fostering their well-being and personal development throughout their educational journey.
