Job summary

Standard Chartered Bank's SABRE analytics team invites an experienced Java software engineer to join a high-performance, investment-banking IT environment. You will develop features for the bank's strategic risk and PnL engine, delivering reliable software with strong test coverage and scalable designs.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years hands-on development with investment banking IT experience.
  • Java development in a performance-focused concurrent environment.
  • Experience with TDD and BDD in a commercial setting.
  • Exposure to Azure DevOps and continuous integration/delivery.
  • Ability to work in an agile environment delivering software incrementally.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Economics.
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver quality features and enhancements to internal business users.
  • Apply systematic architectural, design and programming approaches.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Development Manager, Project Manager, and a team of developers to deliver quality features and enhancements to the internal business users
  • Demonstrate a systematic and disciplined architectural, system design and programming approach
  • Deeply passionate about best-practice software design principles, you will write robust code along with a high-level of test coverage
  • Self-starter who can drive/facilitate requirements and development effort
  • Design smart and scalable solutions following the bank standards
  • Coordinate with other teams in Technology
  • Develop, prepare and maintain system documentation, including program descriptions and operational procedures
  • Act as the second line of support during production problems.

Our Ideal Candidate
  • 8+ years hands on development with investment banking IT experience
  • Java development experience working in a performance focused concurrent environment
  • Experience of TDD and BDD in a commercial environment
  • Exposure to continuous build and deployment solutions such as Azure DevOps
  • Able to work within an agile environment delivering software incrementally
  • Strong analytical & problem solving and creative skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to be organised and multi-task on different requirements across various stakeholders, and to work independently and under pressure
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness to work with a range of people from diverse background and geographies
  • Should have a technical or numerate degree in subjects such as Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Economics
Role Specific Technical Competencies
  • Good understanding of JVM internals including but not limited to concurrency, garbage collections, nio, async programming
  • Experience with analytical databases like Clickhouse is a plus
  • Experience with Apache Spark is useful but not essential
  • Knowledge of Financial Markets domain would be a great advantage
