Operating like a startup within government, OGP identifies opportunities to solve public problems using technology, rapidly prototypes solutions, and launches them — from citizen-facing apps to tools that automate public agency operations. The Applied Experiments Division (AED) within OGP takes on the most ambiguous open problems and runs experiments to help inform better government decisions.### The roleThis role sits within the Applied Experiments Division and leads design on OGP's most ambiguous, large-scale challenges. Roughly two-thirds of your time is hands-on design work; the remainder goes to design process, cross-functional leadership, and managing a small team of 2–3 designers.### What you would do* Lead the design of complex products that address large-scale societal challenges, breaking down ambiguous problems and turning insights into refined prototypes and user-centred experiences across government services.* Manage 2–3 direct reports, taking responsibility for their professional development and career growth.* Drive rapid prototyping, prioritising early testing of ideas to identify issues quickly and enable faster iteration.* Partner closely with engineers and policymakers to ensure successful execution of designs, aligning product teams and stakeholders on priorities and streamlining complex systems.* Set design direction and standards, introduce new methods, and advocate for user-centred design across OGP.* Help teams use AI and emerging tools responsibly where they genuinely improve user outcomes, design quality, or how teams work.### What they are looking for* More than 8 years of experience in digital product design, with a portfolio demonstrating the ability to design impactful products and experiences.* An exceptional eye for detail and strong visual design sense, with the ability to clearly articulate the reasoning behind design decisions.* Hands-on experience with user research methodologies and a strong understanding of mobile-first and responsive design principles.* High proficiency in Figma and modern design tools; experience with frontend technologies is a plus.* Effective communication skills, able to bridge users and engineers and convey design details clearly to technical teams.* Leadership skills including handling difficult conversations, performance management, and conflict resolution.* A proactive mindset and willingness to challenge the status quo to drive improvements in government services.* Commitment to public good and motivation to make a meaningful impact on society, including willingness to challenge political pressures when they do not align with the public interest.### Working arrangementsThe role is based in Singapore on a hybrid basis.## DetailsLocation: SingaporeOn-site or remote: HybridSalary: n/aSector: Good govRole: Product designSeniority: StaffOrganisation: Public sectorThis job is listed on the Hard Problems job board, but details come from the employer’s own listing and may have changed — always check the original posting.
