Reporting to the group manager, the appointee will work in a team to provide consultancy services to the construction industry. He / She will participate in improving functionality of built environment materials for modern construction and infrastructure, addressing various needs from structural integrity to energy efficiency and sustainability. The appointee will also be involved in the testing services and the teaching of short courses relating to built environment materials technology. The role will combine practical industry engagement with opportunities for research and innovation, making it ideal for professionals looking to advance the future of sustainable building practices.
[What you will be working on]
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage innovation projects in collaboration with construction SMEs, building materials manufacturers, and internal stakeholders.
- Gather and analyze user requirements, translating them into technical specifications for the improvement and development of construction and building technologies.
- Provide consultancy services to construction and building SMEs, offering expert advice to enhance their processes and materials for commercialization.
- Drive the development and improvement of built environment materials to meet industry standards and commercial viability.
- Design functional building materials, conduct trial mixes, and oversee construction material testing to ensure performance meets client specifications.
- Actively engage with industry partners to test and validate the performance of construction materials.
- Coordinate and deliver training courses, seminars, and workshops related to construction chemicals and materials for adult learners.
- Mentor and supervise interns and students on Final Year Projects, providing guidance and ensuring successful project outcomes.
[What we are looking for]
Requirements:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field from a reputable university.
- 6 to 10 years of relevant working experience, particularly in the built environment materials or related sectors.
- Strong background in material development, with a specific focus on functional materials for the construction industry.
- Knowledge and experience in Green Mark Building Certification, Singapore Green Labelling Scheme, and Green Product Certification is highly advantageous.
- Proven R&D experience in the built environment materials manufacturing industry is preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction material testing, design processes, and trial mixes.
- Familiarity with local authorities’ requirements for building materials and construction practices.
- A self-driven and independent professional who enjoys working in a collaborative team environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Passion for innovation, and a desire to create value through technology deployment and transfer within the built environment industry.
- Experience in project management and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders effectively.
- Prior experience in mentoring and supervising students or junior staff is a plus.
Successful applicant will be offered a 2-year contract in the first instance.
