Position Summary


The Lead Maintenance Technician will be responsible for performing maintenance tasks across all The Salvation Army properties in Orange County and supporting the Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor with leadership of the Facilities and Maintenance team. This role ensures that all facilities are maintained to the highest standards, supporting the organization's mission to serve the community.


Essential Functions



  • Perform and in some cases oversee routine and preventive maintenance tasks, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building repairs.

  • Provide leadership, guidance and support to the Orange County Facilities and Maintenance team at the direction of the Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor to ensure efficient operations.

  • Manage, prioritize and perform work orders, ensuring timely completion and high-quality standards.

  • Ensure all maintenance activities are performed and comply with safety regulations and standards.

  • Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment, ensuring availability and proper storage.

  • Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for specialized repairs and services.

  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests and ensure prompt resolution of issues.

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inspections, and repairs.

  • Have a general knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, painting and welding work and be able to perform repairs in those areas.

  • Must be able to handle all tools required for the job in a safe way

  • Must be able to climb ladders, walk roofs and perform jobs from scaffolding, when necessary.

  • Provide regular status reports to Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor regarding issues resolved, those needing attention, and those currently in progress.

  • Perform setup and tear down for events as needed

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor.


PAY RATE: $28-$30.00/hr.


Working Conditions


Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.

  • Relevant certifications such as HVAC certification, Electrical certification, or equivalent are preferred.

  • Driving is Required for this position:

  • Driving Test and clean MVR check required

  • If working in vicinity of children a criminal background check is required with certification for Protect the Mission policies and procedures.

  • By virtue of its direct contact with, and representation to people who engage in Salvation Army programs, people who demonstrate an understanding of The Salvation Army's Christian mission are required for this position


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities



  • Proficiency in maintenance tasks, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general repairs.

  • Strong knowledge of building systems, safety regulations, and maintenance best practices. In-depth knowledge of building systems, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and safety regulations.

  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team.

  • Self-Starter able to operate and thrive in a fast-paced, frequently changing environment

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
