Job summary

Balyasny Asset Management in Singapore is seeking a Lead Engineer for the Singapore Trade Processing team to own the design, architecture and delivery of post-trade platforms.

This is a hands-on leadership role focusing on production software, mentoring engineers and guiding delivery across a small team in collaboration with global Operations Technology.

You will shape the technical roadmap, work with distributed systems, and ensure reliability, scalability and rapid product onboarding.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in investment management, trading or financial-services tech environments.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering, including technical leadership and ownership of complex production systems.
• 10+ years of programming in Rust, C#/.NET, Java or Python, with experience building concurrent, high-performance software.
• 10+ years of experience designing and building scalable, event-driven distributed systems using Kafka, Kinesis, Solace or RabbitMQ.
• Experience using AI coding assistants or agentic development tools to support software delivery, with validation of outputs.
• 10+ years of experience with modern software delivery practices (Git, CI/CD, automated testing).
• At least 3 years guiding technical decisions and leading engineers while remaining hands-on.
• Strong ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions for diverse audiences.

Job description

As a Lead Engineer on our Singapore Trade Processing team, you will own the design, architecture and delivery of platforms supporting the firm’s post-trade lifecycle.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will spend most of your time designing and building production software, while guiding technical direction, mentoring engineers and supporting delivery across a small team.

Working closely with the global Operations Technology group, you will extend the platform to support new products and strengthen the high-volume, distributed systems underpinning the firm’s Equity, Macro, Multi-Asset Arbitrage and Commodities strategies.

We’re looking for an engineer who leads through technical expertise, demonstrated experience designing and delivering production systems, and hands-on delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the architecture and delivery of high-throughput, distributed trade-processing systems, ensuring reliability, recoverability and horizontal scalability as volumes and product coverage grow.
• Spend the majority of your time on hands-on engineering, including design, coding, code review and delivery of production software.
• Lead delivery of end-to-end trade lifecycle capabilities, spanning capture, allocation, settlement and reconciliation, alongside lifecycle events such as takedowns, expiries, corporate actions and cashflows.
• Onboard new products onto the platform, working directly with engineers and business stakeholders.
• Guide technical decisions and project delivery, supporting engineers’ growth through mentoring and coaching.
• Translate business needs into practical technical solutions, working with global teams to align architecture and delivery.
• Shape the technical roadmap, balancing near-term priorities with platform resilience, maintainability and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

• At least 10 years of experience in investment management, trading or other financial-services technology environments.
• At least 10 years of professional software engineering experience, including technical leadership and ownership of complex production systems.
• At least 10 years ofprofessional programming experience in one or more languages, such as Rust, C#/.NET, Java or Python, and experience building concurrent, high-performance software. Willingness to build new capabilities in Rust and enhance existing C#/.NET services is essential.
• At least 10 years of experience designing and building scalable, event-driven distributed systems using messaging or streaming technologies such as Kafka, Amazon Kinesis, Solace or RabbitMQ.
• Demonstrated experience using AI coding assistants or agentic development tools to support software delivery, including coding, testing, review or documentation, together with the ability to validate outputs and apply appropriate safeguards.
• At least 10 years of experience with modern software delivery practices, including version control, automated testing and CI/CD, using tools such as Git, Jenkins or Octopus Deploy.
• At least 3 years of experience in guiding technical decisions, leading engineers to support technical delivery while remaining predominantly hands-on.
• Communication skills sufficient to translate business requirements into technical solutions and explain complex concepts to technical and business audiences.

Desirable Experience

• Experience building and operating Rust applications in production.
• Object-oriented development experience in C#/.NET or Java.
• Full-stack development experience spanning modern user interfaces, such as React or Angular, server-side services and APIs, and relational or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with AWS or Azure, including cloud-native and serverless architectures.
• Experience provisioning and managing cloud infrastructure using Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Experience with agile delivery and test-driven development.
• Knowledge of the FIX protocol.
• Understanding of post-trade workflows across US and international equity, fixed income and commodity markets.
