Lead Design Engineer

JOB SUMMARY
Lead Design (Transceiver Firmware) Engineer develops and maintains the embedded software for optical transceivers, ensuring they operate reliably and efficiently. This role requires a deep understanding of both hardware and software, with responsibilities including designing, implementing, testing, and debugging firmware for these devices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Firmware Development: Writing, debugging, and testing firmware for optical transceivers, often using C or C++.
2. Hardware Integration: Collaborating with hardware engineers to ensure the firmware works seamlessly with the transceiver's hardware.
3. Testing and Validation: Thoroughly testing firmware to ensure it meets performance and reliability requirements.
4. Problem Solving: Debugging and resolving issues with firmware and hardware integration.
5. Performance Optimization: Optimizing firmware for speed, efficiency, and power consumption.
6. Documentation: Maintaining detailed documentation of firmware code and functionality.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

• Firmware Programming: Proficiency in C/C++ and embedded programming languages.
• Embedded Systems: Understanding of embedded systems architecture, including microcontrollers and communication protocols.
• Optical Transceivers: Knowledge of optical transceiver technology, including modulation formats (e.g., PAM4), standards (e.g., IEEE Ethernet, OIF, CMIS, MSA), and test methodologies.
• Hardware Design: Understanding of hardware design principles and PCB layout.
• Signal Integrity: Knowledge of signal integrity issues (e.g., crosstalk, noise, reflections) and how they impact transceiver performance.
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Communication: Good communication and collaboration skills.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's Degree: Typically a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field is required.
• Experience: Relevant experience in firmware development, embedded systems, and optical transceivers is highly desirable.
• Master's Degree or Ph.D.: May be preferred or required for more senior positions.
