Job summary

Resorts World Sentosa invites a Research Scientist – Cetacean Conservation Science to lead Singapore Oceanarium's cetacean research programme, integrating care‑based studies with wild population conservation.

You will oversee a portfolio spanning animal welfare, veterinary medicine, behaviour, physiology, and conservation technologies, collaborating with vets, scientists, universities, and government partners to advance regional cetacean conservation.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s in Marine Biology, Marine Mammal Science, Conservation Biology, Zoology, Animal Behaviour, Veterinary Science, Ecology, or related discipline.
• Minimum 3–5 years of cetacean research and/or conservation experience with demonstrated independence.
• Experience leading field cetacean research and conservation programmes.
• Experience in multidisciplinary and collaborative environments.
• Record of peer‑reviewed cetacean-related publications.
• Demonstrated analytical, statistical, project management and scientific writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of the cetacean conservation science strategy, aligning with institutional conservation goals.
• Develop a balanced portfolio addressing cetaceans under human care and wild populations.
• Identify priority research opportunities for animal welfare, medicine, behaviour, physiology, and conservation management.
• Ensure research informs evidence-based management and conservation actions for threatened species.
• Translate findings into practical recommendations for care, welfare, and conservation outcomes.
• Drive integration of ex situ and in situ conservation efforts and contribute to regional conservation initiatives.
• Design, coordinate, and deliver research projects from concept to publication and application.
• Manage multiple concurrent projects, meeting milestones, budgets, and timelines.
• Apply statistical and modelling approaches; maintain high rigour and ethics.
• Lead knowledge sharing through publications, conferences, and reports.
• Mentor and supervise students, interns, and researchers; build research capacity.
